DAK was one of a few "close-out" companies that advertised in magazines like Popular Science and Popular Mechanics. They would always have units that seemed a little better than the somewhat entry-level Taiwan Mass-Marketed Equipment. They would have these long descriptions making the units seem kind of nice but they were always an off brand. They did buy all of the Infinity Personal Cassette Players and they sold those off with a similar ad. I've never seen most of their equipment but it does look promising.....
The concept of a separate FM module is just silly IMO, especially since it doesn't have any batteries of its own.
I tried a few DAK items back in the 80's. I was always a sucker for a bargain and their ads pulled me in!
How about JS&A eissmann? I remember being a little boy and lusting after this walkie-talkie with a range of several miles! I finally found one at a thrift but it's tucked away somewhere. http://www.cbgazette.com/rev_pocketcomm.html
Jeez, those guys didn't know how to advertise. Only geeks would read such long descriptions. Everyone else takes one look at that wall of text and turns the page.
