I have two WM-190, one with a split wheel and one with the flat cable connecting the head halfway ripped, but both in excellent cosmetic condition. I put the both together and put in a new belt and all went well so far. Now, when the motor is running there is a quite high pitched noise in the output. I tried to touch the board on several places, wiggled whatever I could and then replaced the whole board (from the second one I had one ready). The noise is still there. It changes though when I touch the "tape type switch". Anyone any ideas where I could continue looking (or guiding me to a thread which deals with this problem)? Thanks!
Replace all the electrolytic capacitors, common issue in this model. You'll probably need to learn to solder/desolder SMD caps. Look at my 2017 capacitor list to find equivalent replacements. http://www.stereo2go.com/forums/threads/list-of-common-walkman-capacitors-2017.1246/
Hi bub, thank you very much for your help! Since I'm not very familiar with their shape (I've soldered some Eurorack modules with parts like this before): It's the round "barrel type" ones with the black plastic bases (quite rectangular with two "cut off" edges, right? I count eleven pieces. Could that be?
I just finished the smd soldering on one of them - and although I'm an absolute beginner at smd soldering everything went smoothly and it took me only about two hours. So: courage! If I can do it everybody can...
