Very few of these in the UK but I managed to get one here, so no shipping and no tax to ramp up the price. Did a 400+ round trip in the camper to pick it up to save it getting damaged in transit as they don’t travel well. Never thought I’d get one at all but now I have one in good nick and fully working (once I did a bit of soldering plus new belts)! Got the missing door on it’s way to me though I need to print the graphic. Sounds much better than I’d expected. Though it’s still one that Nick could legitimately call a Mickey Mouse box as the build quality is far from the best. But lots of fun!
Yes! Thanks for sharing, an icon of the ages that's still in great shape. I dream about stuff like this and the fact that you drove a camper is legendary status. Great catch, guys on the forum have been doing well lately and it's cool seeing where this stuff is showing up around the world.
Mickey mouse or not. Sometimes you just gotta have fun! Every box doesn't need to be gray with vu meters. Glad you got it sorted out.
Split the trip in half by camping overnight near the pickup. Found a lovely place to stop next to a village green, pond and pub And yes that dayglo yellow van is mine lol
I’ve done pretty well recently, scoring a few top boxes without spending mega bucks so it’s all good!
Yeah that is an amazing score for the UK, finding one locally takes all the hassle out of the deal, not counting the 400 mile road trip Its nice you broke the trip up with some camping in such a lovely spot to. Great score mate
Yeh was really lucky with the overnight stop, hadn’t planned anything so was great to stumble across somewhere so nice. Picking it up takes all the shipping anxiety away, definitely the best way. Would only do this length of trip for a rare one though. No way I was having a Discolite shipped if I could avoid it, way too easily damaged
Thanks Dimitris, I’m sending my brother a scan of deck 1 together with a picture of deck 2 and he’s going to reproduce the graphic file needed to get it printed
That is very nice (sad of the broken door), i've a duplicate of that, the Sigmatech Atp-520 (only the lights are different)
The deck door is almost sorted. I’ve had my brother reproduce the graphic and I’ve had that printed. And I’ve got a replacement door coming at some point from another member. So it will be 100% soon
I've seen the imported model here, stateside, at a warehouse store. Wasn't too impressed by it's lack of features at the time, but it does look like a nice piece to bring to the party. By the way: Don't feel bad about the missing door... I first cassette walkman--a $5.00 Crown--lost it's door within the first month. So, as cheap electronics go....
Hi - i’ve got one of these boxes to restore but desperately need a deck 1 faschia.... no idea even where to start as to printing type or media... how did you get the above ones reproduced? Is it a copy shop thing or on some kind of adhesive acetate? They look well legit! (Well done your brother on matching the art) Don’t suppose you’d sell me a couple? Would save me days of pain! Maybe a deck 2 one as well so they matched? cheers DobboNZ
I was looking at stuff in the old forum reader and found a link to the owner's manual, hopefully you find this enjoyable!
