I’ve been an audiophile for nigh on 50 years ever since I part-exchanged a pair of binoculars, to my parents’ dismay, in a 2nd hand shop for my very first Bush portable record player- the kind with a basic (very) t/table and mono speaker. To cut a long story short, I’ve travelled the world taking all my gear, including LPs and CDs, together with s fragile Oracle deck and Linn l/s, eventually returning with a massive and heavy pair of Usher Dancers! Ironically, I’ve leant over to portables since settling down back in the UK, and am the proud user of the Echobox Explorer dap using various sets of cheapish but still good ‘phones, especially the little Sony EXs from an earlier NWZA player. I’ve also been pleased to own mint examples of Sony cassette players, especially the DC2 - fettled by the renowned Dr Walkman -, a DD9 (still looking for the dedicated original case, as this was missing), and even a solid DD33 - nicely fettled this time by Marian Mihok of Slovakia. I never cease to be amazed by the SQ and punchy tone of all of these 30+ year old devices. I joined this forum specifically to try and find the Dolby chip CX20068 for another mint DC2, so if anyone has an externally thrashed player that comes nowhere near ludicrous eBay prices, I’m your ready buyer!
