Hi everyone. New to this forum but I've been getting back into old classic stereo. Nostalgia has me getting back into the old vinyl and cassette tape. I've dug up my old Aiwa walkmans and picked up a couple of classic Sony Walkmans as well. Hope to learn from the experts here.
It's a great hobby and very addictive, I was buying "old" stereo equipment when everyone laughed and said Bose was the future. Back then a lot of it was either free or dirt cheap and I grabbed all the cool stuff including any AIWA I could get my hands on, then I'd head to Goodwill and grab a bunch of 25 cent cassettes and play the crap out of them. Sure I have a ton of MP3's but the physical music players are so much more fun. I haven't been to San Diego in years but I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market several years ago and found two killer boxes including a very nice Pioneer, I have to believe your in a great place to find some really cool equipment.
Yeah, it's a very addicting hobby. I have a few cassette albums from back in the old days, mostly 80s music. I also have CD and mp3 versions but I'm glad I kept the cassettes (or at least my parents didn't throw them away after I left home). It's just something about the way cassettes and records sound compared with digital media. Anyway, San Diego is nice in terms of availability of vintage equipment but doesn't compare to what's available in LA where I grew up. Unfortunately, this hobby is getting a bit expensive as even Goodwill and other thrift stores are selling the vintage stuff for big money now compared with what they used to go for. Oh well. I guess it's one way to keep the collection small.
