Longman, 100 points it's all complete, just no manual. haven't tried it yet as i have to dig out my step-down transformer (it's a 110v- version). even came with 4 (mega-rare) vt-cassettes, three are minty, one it's written on (translated): Johnny's arrival 05.march 1979 - i must get that thingy to work - i want to know wich Johnny they're talking about - is it Johnny Rotten ? Johnny Ramone ? Johnny Cash ???
Oh god Auto, Johnnys arrival could be literally that, a birthing tape! I hope im wrong and its Johnny arriving at an airport......
I have to admit I wasn't expecting the VCR in there as well. In my garage (never tried) is a Sony Trinicon video camera something like this https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=sony+trinicon+camera+in+case&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=JX9fl4fUhMt49M%3A%2CkKdLI7Qb8dCfTM%2C_&usg=__y8Hrdfw0Fi4Efp25PDsEVzpd_aY=&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiKn7jHofbZAhXEDMAKHcrzAtQQ9QEISDAE#imgrc=JX9fl4fUhMt49M: The case for that is about the same size as your silver case.
wow, i spent the whole afternoon with my new toy. i got it allready to power up, camera works, recorder only partially. troubleshooting: it's not a big surprise that all belts are gone, otherwise it seems to be ok. believe it, or not - to repair a walkman is easier !
I wonder how much that cost when it was new. In the 1982 Dixons catalogue I recently posted pages from, the JVC portable video system was £1150 the equivalent to £3858 in todays money. Even by 1995 the cheapest Camcorder I could find was £300, the equivalent of £550 today. Of course there were cheaper ways of doing things. In about 1987 I was at Bristol Balloon Fiesta and saw a friend there, sat in his car with using a Video Camera and Sanyo VTC5000 sat on the passenger seat running from an inverter to film the Hot Air Balloons.
the recorder alone did cost new DM 3.900,- (€ 1.950,-), with buying-power from 1973 it would easily mean € 7.800,- today - a blank cassette did cost +/- DM 50,- (€ 25,-), the price for the camera i can only guess +/- € 1.500-2.000,- so buying this set in those days was the price of a decent sedan only need to organize belts now, got the rest sorta running - i'm so curious now about Johnny !
That's really cool, I like how the head and tape path are exposed for easy cleaning. I think the head is a little black bar that runs in the groove of the cylinder, your biggest concern will be tape shed from the old tape. Make sure any small black pieces get cleaned out regularly using IPA with the highest percentage you can find, the other ingredient is water and not good for metal. Use foam Q-tips so you don't leave fibers on everything. I bought a few old VHS cleaning tapes that had a cleaner like Tetrafluorethane in them, that stuff is great but hard to find and no longer sold due to environmental concerns but it really cleans tape heads well.
thanks, mr.x, don't worry, i'm a trained tv/video-mechanic and studied my profession in the early/mid 80'es. so that you know that i know what i'm doing please let me introduce you to JOHNNY - he's the boy on the backseat of this beautyfull ALFASUD: as i don't have the right capstan-belt yet i only have standing-pictures. the quality is in my eyes quite amazing. later in the recording you can see that Johnny was handicapped (mentally retarded) and in need of a wheelchair - i don't want to publish such an intimous video complete as i think this is a family-thing (might try to find out the family), but thought i can't withhold you folks the ALFASUD !
Just out of curiosity or in case I jump on something like this, how did you go from the connector on the unit to the TV?
