    Friends'

I've been looking for a clean RT-2800 for as long as I can remember. This week I was lucky enough to find one local to me in Romania.

This is in fact the Asia-only version the RT-2880. There are some minor cosmetic differences but it's pretty much as I wanted. The beauty here is that it comes with it's microphone and, wait for it, a complete Parabolic Reflector. A Parabolic Reflector I hear you ask, well I'll let this illustration do the talking....

Who could live without such a thing in their life?

The idea is that you unatach the mic from the unit then insert it in the back of the reflector thus giving you pin-point targetted mic action for those hard to reach places. Well, in theory anyway.

    Anyway, here she is.

That reflector must be worth it's weight in gold. These units always make me think of the movie Blow Out with John Travolta.

AO firstly great to see you post and hope you are well.
Secondly, hot damn those are cool as hell!

I always did like these but the parabolic reflector is always missing and it kinda makes it for me. Lovely find

It would seem that A O has found the parabolic reflector unit of his dreams. It certainly seems to be in commendable condition.

It's from the Seventies, isn't it? It has that pseudo-military look that some portable sound systems from that decade came with. (Though the speaker grille of this version looks nicer than that of the lookalike Actas 2800 modelled -- in a disco music slideshow -- by YouTube uploader Nickolas Ostenbacken.:nodding:)

Tell us, A O: have you had a chance to test the sensitivity of that plug-in WM-280 with the parabolic dish?

In a certain Perry Mason adventure (don't ask me which one:shrug:), one of the powerhouse lawyer's PIs (Paul Drake? Ken Malansky?) opines that the high-end audio setup (maybe with a reflector) he finds at some rich person's house (maybe the crime scene) could help one "hear an ant move."

Don't know how well the sound-scooper helped hard-luck Nordberg in the 1988 adventure The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad! But how well does your sound-scooper work, A O? Heard any steps from dancing queens (the kind with six legs)?

4:08AM ET Update: The beige (or "faintly yellowish") colour of the walls in the room that A O photographs his "find" in gives the pictures something of a nice tint. (Either that, or there's something about the filter in his Pentax...)

Wow, different grill on this version. Plus a rectangular dish instead of round.

Very nice Cris. I know you always liked a bonkers mono & that Tosh is pretty much ideal... :)

Are you able to get signals from InSight (landed on Mars at 11:52:59 a.m. PT (2:52:59 p.m. ET) on Nov. 26, 2018)?

    Congratulations.
