Brand names can be used by multiple entities in different parts of the world.
There are Aiwa stereos being sold today that weren't made by Aiwa of USA.

This does seem like market testing, so it's dependent on people buying it. I feel like teens who just want something to play their cassettes on will get this, or maybe people who aren't quite as into the intricacies of boomboxes who just want to replay their cassettes after many years. I could even see myself getting one if it's cheap enough and purely because sometimes you need to vote with your wallet. Either way the cyclical nature of the problem is that a cheapo boombox will play music at a lower quality, which will perpetuate the myth that cassettes are garbage quality and that will in turn drive people away from the medium again... Until another new boombox interests them, it turns out to be lacklustre and the cycle continues.
As Radio Raheem says they should actually focus on making good quality products and not something cheap, sure it costs them less in the long run but sometimes effort goes a long way to building - or in this case rebuilding - trust in a brand. Even Sony's modern mp3 Walkmans have fallen victim to being cheap outsourced Chinese stuff with the SONY logo from what I've experienced, damn shame.

It would be interesting to know who the target market is and who buys the Radio Cassettes that are on the market. A couple of years ago I looked through the Currys reviews for the Sony one and a lot were along the lines of "I bought this for my 80 year old Mother and she loves being able to play her cassettes again". Back in 2009 I read that the best selling pre-recorded cassette in a long time had been Vera Lynn's No.1 compilation album. The fact that Vera Lynn was 92 back then shows who was buying / being bought the cassettes.

Very true, I've seen a lot of these reviews too. I feel like Guardians of the Galaxy, Stranger Things and other mainstream projects have widened the appeal of the medium to a degree... We'll see how things play out.

I was watching some young guys mid-20's comb through the record rack the other day, personally I think it's a fun hobby for them, whenever I go to a used record store it's either the old guys or the young guys and girls. The youngsters really like looking through the covers, just like we did.

Of course buying a $50 tape player is important, unless they have a electronic tech uncle, to complete the process. Since all of these new players seem to have the same mechanism, they don't know what's good, and they probably don't care but the problem is they'll walk away thinking that's as good as it gets.

I was rather surprised a couple of months ago when I saw some guys of a similar age out walking and taking pictures of each other using a Fuji Instant Film Camera. When everyone has a Smartphone doing something like that is a bit more interesting.

Really? The digital Walkman I had in the mid 2000's was good though. Come to think of it, I still actually have it around somwhere.

Reli, Jamo speakers were indeed made by Goodmans of Havant near Portsmouth UK!

The early 80's Jamo's were sold here mainly through mail order catalogues & were all bulit by Goodmans who back then were a major player in the UK loudspeaker market!

It was thought that the Jamo models were a 'More Affordable' choice for many & they sold it their 1000's over here!

Cheap fibreboard boxes with high efficiency drivers, a poor crossover & nasty cone tweeters of with those horrid diffuser grilles in front of the tweeters - The thing is, they sounded very good for the money & were perfect to upgrade your music centre or low end separates system! No soft dome tweeters here.....

They got the styling bang on & looked really nice, offering a huge 15 inch bass driver on the top of the range which moved air for sure! Unfortunately the nasty horn midrange delivered a very coloured mid response & the cheap cone tweeter I already mentioned adorned these biggies too, so a shame indeed!

The most popular models were derived from the already existing Goodmans 'Powerline Series' the basic pair boasted an 8 inch bass unit, a 5 inch midrange & a 2 inch tweeter (Cone type)...

Having tested the waters, the Jamo brand became a real winner & was eventually sold off elsewhere leaving Goodmans to continue making their own loudspeakers until the mid 90's when they sadly ceased trading! :noway:

As stated earlier Goodmans were huge in the UK loudspeaker makers producing some great sounding right across the range!

Such a shame they are gone, it was cool to have the huge factory just a few miles away from us down here! They were responsible for launching & building Jamo speakers...

    Gale Force :loldiag::loldiag::loldiag::loldiag::loldiag::loldiag::loldiag:

Nick I thought Jamo was a Danish company? If so, then maybe Goodmans only assembled the ones meant for the UK

These are the Jamos I always wanted. Yeah I know they're not hifi, but they look badass. I think they were meant for dumb college kids and 20-somethings, which is exactly what I was at the time....

They remind me of the huge Memorex ones that Tandy did sell, a kid on my estate had some back in the day and they were loud!
