I enjoyed GOTG movie, but I admit it was mostly by the fact the main character was using a walkman. A SONY TPS-L2 to be exact. What most of us (collectors) didn’t like so much is that this movie pushed the prices of this model like a rocket into the sky… Now Marvel has released the trailer of the sequel: And we ask ourselves: will he be still using his TPS-L2? Will he show another one? (so we must avoid another particular model from this moment on). We’ll see… Seen at Gizmodo. Posted at my blog.
I did enjoy the movie, I got some of the GOTG cassette tapes to, the "awesome mix" and its a cool tape, felt strange popping in to HMV to buy a tape. Soon as a preview shows a walkman in the sequel there will be a rush to buy that model.
Well you know what they say about a fool and his money? If anyone is stupid enough to pay a hyped up price just because of a film, well to each his own.
Despite my moans at the time I did quite well out of this movie and sold four TPS-L2's which between them paid for our holiday
Having been involved in the first one, and knowing the film inside out I think it's safe to say that when he was "kidnapped" from outside the hospital just after his mother passed, he was taken with whatever he had in his rucksack. Its pretty fair (and obvious) to say that the TPS is the only device PQ has, given his extraction from earth. As a side note, walking on set and seeing him wearing a TPS-L2 was quite an experience. With hindsight, I should have hit ebay immediately and grabbed a couple at their pre GOTG prices Still, VOL. 2 will no doubt add fuel to the bonkers prices being charged for even crappy TPS-L2's.
hopefully this time it'll be a TPS-L2 CLONE, so that I can quickly throw my collection on the market and RETIRE !
I remember buying 10 TPS-L2 from a seller in Italy shortly before the film was released. They were poorly listed, and I managed to get all 10 for 40 euro. I managed to get 7 of the 10 working by replacing belts and cleaning them up. I figure I'd make a couple of hundred from them. The first one I listed had gone up to 500 within the first hour of listing. I was flabbergasted. I then started receiving messages asking had I any more to sell. And yes I had 6 more! I then got a message from a guy who told me about the movie, and that this walkman had appeared in it. I'd known nothing about this movie. To cut a long story short, I sold all 7 working ones plus the broken ones. Some of the ones I listed towards the end didn't go as high as the earlier listings. The broken ones even made decent money. I made over 3000 euro from my box of 40 euro Walkmans! I still tell my friends about it to this day. And all because of a movie. Thank you Guardians Of The Galaxy!
that will be my nightmare I managed to get a collection of TPS-L2s and i dont want to see its replica be in the movie.
