I was checking out his other listings and he seems to specialize in rare and oddball versions of albums. While his prices seem a little high to me, and I don't have a good grasp of album values, there must be something about this version that makes it worth several hundred dollars. It will be interesting to see if any other members have more information on this cassette. I know I have never seen any MSFL tapes out in the wild and I have a decent size cassette collection bought mostly used over the years.
sometimes some people have no intention of selling an item but want to show others that they own something special so they place a crazy price tag on the item. Some sellers have special mentality of selling stuff. So you know if something is listed as 20 dollars with "best offer accepted" option, buyer probably go for 10-18 dollar offer. BUT you don't expect an item which is listed for 750 USD to get best offer as 15 USD!! So this seller knows that his/her cassette doesn't worth 750 dollars but hoping to get a best offer of probably 100-200 dollars !
At least it's unused. The Michael Jackson "Thriller" cassette on eBay for $387USD is not even new. We all know it's a CRO2 cassette but the seller is not even stressing that point. Buy the vinyl and record your own on a decent type II or IV cassette would give you a better result. I am not convinced these pop genre pre recorded cassettes will ever appreciate significantly.
Here's a description of the MSFL format and a justification of why the seller thinks they are actually this valuable. This one is for Steely Dan's Aja album which took over a year in studio time to make. I'm a big fan but I won't be tempted by this price http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eB...=176983&pm=1&ds=0&t=1547339716445&cspheader=1
I wish I understood the process more, since the master is by-passing vinyl and going direct to tape at normal speed, that would be the best taped copy. If I take a hot-stamped album and record it with TOTL equipment, how much "worse" is it? What is the source of most high-speed recorded cassettes? Second generation tape from the masters?
Eh..... Indeed overpriced.... just look on Discogs for MFSL tapes..... I think 100-120€ is realistic , but better buy Would be the MFSL vinyl version
