Ill probably only record 1 or 2 of the newer versions and maybe sit on the older ones. Ive never used these before, how do they compare to sony xr? Although i just dropped my deck off for service today, so its either wait or record on a restored/recapped d3.
Why sit on the older ones? just use them. Don't know how they compare to Sony XR, never used an XR. My default cassettes are TDK MA-XG. Not sure a Sony D3 would do them justice even if the D3 is setup for MX.
I love finding NOS like that, my go to tapes years ago were Maxell UDXL II's, I can still pull them out and they sound great and they were around three bucks each back then. I wouldn't waste these on a boombox recorder, hopefully your deck is a little nicer and can take advantage of these.
I guess ill wait for my deck to come back! Its a marantz pmd-520 thats getting a full service. Sounded great but was time for some service to keep it problem free had seen the value of the older ones, but i guess your right, why not use them
Don’t use all of them. They go for a fortune in the UK https://www.cassettecomeback.com/products/maxell-mx-1985-eu
Look familiar? I knew exactly what model you where talking about, cuz it's still one of my go to cassettes. I don't have many left to record on though. I was using this one to record my current mix
Yep, heaven....Those tapes to us young guys were bullet-proof. Three bucks was pretty good money, I think a Big Mac was around $1.75 for you economists. Metal tapes were always mega-money and reserved for the elderly that also had the equipment to use them which didn't include anybody I knew...
I was browsing today and found on tapeline that you can order type iv in a basic shell for next to no money. I’d assume the same in the US, if you’re not fussed about the shell or resale value then it’s not a bad idea. I just bought a c-60 of type 4 maxell metal for £3.50 which is a total bargain. https://www.tapeline.info/v2/metal-type-4-tape-in-type-2-shell.html
Did you find some more? Feel free to post that stereo down below, it looks like Technics TT and Marantz Reciever but I don't recognize the rotary switches, that are below the gyroscopic tuning knob. I might be getting a glare, the case doesn't look like Marantz.
I did find more, 10 sony xr's new in the brick!! Theres another batch i may go grab of some Denon Hd8, hd-M, sony ucx, fuji fr and a few others Good eye, it's my marantz 2275 in a walnut case. Lovely sound
Have any of you guys used fuji fr 60's Ive come across another brick of 10 locally that im going to pick up, curious about any experience with them
These are all awesome tapes and paying anything under $10 a piece is a really good deal for NOS metal these days. I just took my Yamaha Deck in for service yesterday! I have one NOS Fuji Metal in my small collection but I'm not sure if its newer or older than yours
