Boombox lots on Chinese web. These are selling individually for really cheap price. Once I asked a seller how much is his Sharp gf-575 (or 757, cannot remember which model it is because they look alike) with box, he said it is 600 RMB (Approx. $100) and he can repair it for me if I pay a couple of more 100 RMBs. I will never know how one can get so many boomboxes.( The pictures are not from one seller)
From my computer, they seem okay. I saved them and stored them in google photos and added them by url.
Sorry about the inconvenience, I created an album for those photos, so you can view them here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/qzTwAt6NQePtJcgA9
Here is the link to it: https://2.taobao.com/ these stereos are located in China off course. Some of the stereos in the pictures were sold out.
Thanks. I'm in China too, so I thought I might be able to check them out. I don't have a Taobao account. It seems like I need to have an account even to search...is that correct?
Oh you are? The website version not supported anymore, they have removed the search bar. But you can download the app from the chinese app store, it is called "闲鱼" and you have to use the brand's Chinese name to search for the result in the app. Because most seller list the item's brand name using the name's Chinese translation instead of the actual English brand name. Some models are more expensive in China but some are cheaper. I personally recommend you to search for a proxy shopping service and buy boxes on yahoo auctions. Since China is close to Japan. There will also be more choices and it is cheaper for most models. Shipping a 8kg box is about $70. Also, you have to write your address in pinyin, not Chinese. Hope you will get you favorite boombox.
TBH, I was just thinking of checking them out...I'm not actively looking for anything, though I am sure to be tempted by some things more than others. I suppose, in reality, it's just nostalgia, but if the price is right, who knows Yeah, I'm not too interested in installing an app just to be able to search. On a side note, I do find the direction of the internet in China to be quite concerning. It's all about 'walled gardens' enforced by native apps...especially WeChat. It's almost like the web is disappearing.
A few years ago there were sharp GF777z s from China listed on Ebay in English every week. Shipping was expensive but feedback seemed OK. I still recall a picture one deler posted of a store containing about 20 of them. Had I been on the forum then I would have saved it. I guess most have been sold now or it is easier to sell to other Chinese.
I loved the old days of getting things from really far away Longman, I was amazed at getting cords directly from China for dirt cheap. The threads of the 777's were cool because half of the shipments were perfect and the other half were abused. I think China had a lot for sale because manufacturing had been moved over there and they were still making them long after Japan ceased production, kind of like South America making the VW Beetle until a few years ago...
