Next is my favorite room at THE Show, ATC active speakers pushed out the most exciting audio-waves. As close to what I loved about my Naim Audio SBLs in active mode as you can imagine: middle shelf displays a crossover for those who prefer them in passive mode, those are some pricey caps/coils here PBN showroom: the room is too small or speakers too big, or is it just me? The walls, they were a'shakin' Magico speakers is a new craze in our tiny community: B&W, these shook the outside walls of Hilton hotel. A stew pot on top always reminds me of my native Ukraine these were the speakers I was going to buy when I went "hi-end" in 1998. Not my kind of sound though McIntosh turntable is as b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l as anything from McIntosh, and I asked the guys to spin it for me. and they did! and yet another ballroom from Walker Audio: In 20+ years that I subscribe to Stereophile, they never had a single mention of Gryphon Audio gear. When asked (quite a few times over the years, actually), the response was that Stereophile is trying to avoid publishing negative reviews. I expected the worst, but, evidently, my ears are not as "golden" as of those in the industry. Considering the prices, this is the least of my worries $1,199 soundbar from Bowers & Wilkins... and No, my Boss did not fell for it And another Scott Walker educational setup: Two rooms with exactly the same gear, but only one wired/treated with Synergistic Research gizmos. I got kicked out of here! Technically, pushed out, but still... it was embarrassing!!! I am still trying to figure out why. I did suggest that they intentionally sabotaged the first room, maybe they did not hear that as a joke? And the room where I spent more time than was "proper". Larsen 8 speakers and Pear Audio turntable/amplification. If I ever convert from Naim Audio, this will be my home stereo: We played Symphonic Dances, and then these: Yes, I did spend a lot of time in that hotel room!!!
That is great looking equipment, the wood paneled stuff is pretty cool, usually it's on the sides. Is that reel to reel a new model? I heard someone was making one again.
We have freshly made R2R tapes at some hi-end prices, but all the players seem to be from the olden days...
That McIntosh Table is really neat, is that their first foray into TTs?. The parent company has so much knowledge and history with the brands, it's nice they haven't lost their touch. Not a lot of people know that McIntosh made crappy speakers in the late 70's, I saw a pair once, the owner wouldn't sell but looked pretty bad. At least Marantz made a sporting try with theirs, my HD-880's are pretty cool, I'd never part with them (if I could lift them).
Yes, I think it is their first TT.... but then I Googled the answer and Wow! Now McIntosh makes 4 (four!!!!) TTs How cool is this piece: MTI100 But if speakers on the same desk as TT you will be limiting yourself to SmoothJazz (or is this called LoungeMusik now?)
gee, those are 100k setups. unfortunate, don't have the $$ my dream setup: boulder amp + mbl 101 speakers.
that's the fun of those high end audio shows, you see and hear setups which you can never afford. would love to go to one.
