Hey everyone. Believe it or not I am listening to everything with my same AIWA mini system since junior high school-1980--I know! It still works FINE :) . Okay I did have to get the ON/OFF button repaired, and the tuner is all blinky but seriously this littel baby just keeps chugging along.

Thx Mister X, happy to be here. I am really trying to keep her in good condition--found a little spot down on Canal Street that fixes all the things, cleans the knobs etc, repairs in 24 hrs no less (they dont have room to store anything!)
Ok so maybe dumb question but maybe you can help--i disconnected the system in order to paint my apartment and now painting is done and trying to reconnect. Sadly did not take a picture of my patching and now I cannot get any sound to come through the speakers! I see the indicator lights so teh sound is going in...and vaguely remembered that perhaps I was patching through my Technics M6 cassette deck? At the moment have the components (aux 1&2, tape in) patched into the C30 pre amp, out of pre amp into P30 power amp --that seems right to me, but no! The Technics deck has hardwired tape in and tape out. What am I missing?? Thx in advance!

I'd hook up one component at a time starting with the tuner and amp, check for sound, then add the preamp, and finally the tape deck. Incorrectly wired pre-amps will cause a lot of non-sound issues. If there's a headphone jack you can check for sound through that as well.

Aiwa C30/P30 is a beautiful mini!!! For many years I was very happy with my Harman Kardon Festival system:

but then one day in 1997-98 I walked into Chicago ProMusica which was right across the street from TowerRecords, and John Schwarz hit me with the best hi-end presentation ever! I fought the idea for more than a year, but in the end maxed all my Credit Cards there... :)

I snagged this photo from an old sale, do you know how to correctly wire it? Some members are younger, this was pretty standard for a kid in the 70's and early 80's.

As people suggested I would start out nice and simple to just test the radio

    • Tuner outputs to Tuner Inputs on the center unit.
    • Outputs from the center unit to inputs on the bottom unit.

so that is only four phono leads used so far.
    • Speakers to one set of terminals e.g the top row.

Don't forget there will be several switches on the front which if set incorrectly will cause problems

    • Tuner input selected
    • Correct speakers selected.
    • If you have something like a tape monitor switch is it in the usual position
    • Volume turned up.
We have all done that. Last week I spent about five minutes trying to work out why I didn't have any sound on Youtube.
The volume control on my speakers was turned right down !

If you are still stuck ask member Nick Eccles if he could take a picture of how his Aiwa is wired.

Things are getting interesting if a DD is playing on top, aiwa, technics or something else, doesn't matter..... 20190803_005215.jpg

Nice to see you out again JK1210, great wiring photo! I pulled my SH-8030 out and confirmed it's still working and does having multiple "screens".

And as Longman stated, we all make stupid mistakes, I'm also famous for turning volume knobs down. I also get great deals on vintage equipment when the amp's, preamp RCAs aren't jumped or when people don't use the correct +/- power jack on Casio Keyboards.....
