I ordered this Walkman from eBay knowing it was “for parts”, but I figured I could restore it because the previous owner had not only put new belts on it, but also said that it does function. The first problem is, the volume knob does absolutely nothing. It’s stuck at a low, but audible level. The second problem is that during cassette playback, not only is the volume low, but there is a buzzing/humming sound out of the left channel (it sounds like motor noise). I did do research before buying, and I’m guessing that like most models from this range, it has to do with bad SMD caps. So my first preset of business is, how do I open it? I tried removing all of the visible outer-casing screws, but it wouldn’t budge. Also, where do I order the correct values of capacitors?
other members discussed some of the issues with this model in the past. I hope this help http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/sony-wm-af605-bf605-belt-replacement-help.1621/
I actually had previously read that thread before buying it. My main problem is where am I supposed to order the correct caps from? I tried doing a google search for the different values of caps, but it came up inconclusive.
