Welcome! Next month I am going on vacation, to visit my mother-in-law (my neighbor commented that my English is still iffy: visiting mom-in-law is Not considered a vacation!). Will make a point to post something during my stay in Paris!
Welcome cars and boomboxes are always welcome. I'm wrenching on my 93 Ford F350 as we speak, water pumps are a pain is all I can say right now.
i wont go to deep into the car side but currently i have 9 Volkswagens and a couple of Montegos (Austin/Rover variety not the Mercury one)
I thought only Americans had a load of cars. Give me a small stick shift with a little power and I'm happy but I have to drive a big truck or van most of the time, my poor little E30 sits in the driveway.
cant beat a nice E30, have a friend who has a nice chrome bumper 316, most of mine are MK2 Golfs, 3 are GTI 2 of those 16v but this at the moment this is my daily 1987 1.6HL Montego, slightly oddball but these days very rare, i like the fact i can take this to shows and it's always the 'only one'
I'd love a little GTI, my buddy just got a 2001 diesel stick, pretty rare around here, and that green on yours is outstanding, ours were always black with red accents. I used to see those older models all of the time but it's been awhile, living in the rust belt they didn't survive the winters.
That Daewoo ARW340 is interesting. It's very like the Hitachi 3Ds, even down to the graphics on the centre woofer. However, there was never a Hitachi 3D with decks either end of the box. I suspect each deck gets it's own motor, unlike many twin deck boomboxes ...which is nice
Daewoo is a huge company and makes just about everything, I wonder if they made it or if it was outsourced. Samsung has a dead-ringer boombox that looks just like the Marantz CRS-4000 and I bought a smaller Sansung that looks kind of like the CRS 2020. Maybe they were just copying the models they liked alot
Yes, probably a "your brand here" product from Korea, China, etc. Interesting that Daewoo made it look similar to the Hitachi 3Ds though
Yea, I feel like Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan were copying random boxes, there might be a connection. Maybe they were supplying the cases or other parts for the majors and kept a few for themselves. I just got a TRK 7620 out on the workbench, sadly no power and I haven't gotten to troubleshoot it much. It is pretty cool with two removeable fuses inside.
Probably the same in the UK where they were made. Are you aware of this site ? https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/austin_montego_1.6 It wouldn't surprise me if there are more MG Midgets left than Montegos. The Montego started out as a typical company / hire / taxi car, and at fifteen years old became the sort of car that got scrapped when something started going clunk in the engine. I actually did that with my 2001 Vectra B 2.2L as I don't have room for two cars and the road tax on the Vectra was approaching £300 a year. I now have a Golf 1.4TSI estate Wagon with the DSG gearbox. All that technology gets me more power than the original GTI, 54MPG (40 in US gallons) and £30 a year road tax. p.s I'm surprised that LupoGtiBoy hasn't chimed in to say how big and slow Golfs are
Yes, I've used that car site a few times to see if there are any of my old cars still about. You're right, "unloved" cars disappear much more quickly than cherished models & I'm afraid the Montego doesn't fall into the cherished category...! I also agree about the performance & economy of newer cars. My Focus 1.6 TDCi (chipped to have 131bhp & 219lb/ft) gets over 65mpg & similar performance to the 2 litre petrol.
Back again with some pics of other radios now in my possession Something small for the collection not something I’d normally look for but it was mint condition and only €2 PhilipsD6270 dating to 1986, Computer Compatible.
