Hello! My name is Chad... 47 years old and decided I wanted to start collecting the cassettes and various players I grew up with. I had some pretty impressive boom boxes growing up but like everyone else... lost them to time. Looking forward to finding one of those huge multiple speaker units but have a feeling I'm gonna "pay for it". Picked up a SONY WALKMAN (WM-FX453) today for $2. Trying to find info on it as it powers up (radio works) but the heads aren't spinning. I hear it moving so I'm guessing it's a belt? Hopefully I can find teardown instructions and possibly a belt (or other parts) here on the forum. I'm always interested in the tech i grew up with (late 70's early 80's) and looks like i found the right place. I look forward to getting to know y'all. Thanks! Chad
Welcome Chad. Having set myself the challenge it took me five years to find a replacement for the Amerex AC107 cassette recorder I got for my birthday in 1976 and which I sent to a 50/50 Auction in the early 1980s. I still have the original Sony CFS45L which replaced it. http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?content_oid=492621397537671673&board_oid=193392314111653340 My most recent purchase was a 126 Film camera like the one I had in the 1970s. Since you can't get 126 film any longer that was purely for the nostalgia. Possibly the only item I have ever had Made in Macau.
