    Hi:
Thrilled to join this forum - I am 65 and have been through the entire generation of audio technology right from vacuum tbe radios through today's MP3 players. I was fortunate to lay my hands on a Marantz Superscope CRS 2100 (one of our neighbors had put it next to the dumpster) and everything works very well except that the cassette player door is stuck and does not open even if the eject button is held firm.
It will be great if I can get advise on how to proceed. Depending on the complexity of opening the unit, I will decide if I can do diy fix or I live with the problem. The sound quality with the twin 4" speakers is awesome and my next plans are to update it with blue tooth input/output. AM/FM reception is very good for a 30 year old unit.
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome

Unless you are familiar with servicing I would try and get a service manual for your Marantz.

They do exist and it appears your box is actually more like 40 years old

If you are lucky you might find a free download somewhere.

You will find a manual useful when you try yo add Bluetooth as well as for repairs.

Were you involve in electronics in Silicon Valley ?

It's usually better to have a door stuck closed than open. I pulled down my 2200 to check the action on the eject and there's a little resistance before the hook releases the door. The hook is on the left side by the top of the door. You might want to gently try prying the door with a small screwdriver (or plastic automotive trim removal tool) with the eject button pushed down. There might be soda or something sticky holding the door shut. Don't force it, breaking the hook would be bad.

If that doesn't work you'll have to open it up, these are pretty robust units, I can't see much breaking in there but maybe something else got in the works and won't let the hook move.

The manual for the 2204 is on HIFI Engine, it should be close enough to yours to help a lot. The last digit "4" is for multi-band radio units but the same chassis.

I really like these late 70's boxes, built like a tank and they sound great. They don't get extremely loud but they sound good at all levels. I forgot how heavy it was when I pulled it off the shelf, even these smaller ones are elbow stretchers.

Welcome! Try using a credit card to open the door.

Thanks @MisterX/ @Longman. I did not find the manual in the link that you sent - but I did find it in Hifiengine.com. Here is the link to the Marantz Superscope CRS 2204 service manual (similar to CRS 2100 - at least the tape deck looks identical).
Based on another Mister X's suggestion (thanks Mister X), I am now able to open the cassette door. But it appears that the eject button has an issue as I cannot see it pull the hook that releases the cassette door when pressed.
As Mister X suggested, I will have to open the unit and see why the eject button is sticking --- more to follow.
@Longman I was not involved in electronics in the Valley - instead I was an IT DevOps hired gun. But in my younger days, I worked for a few electronic manufacturers and I still have my soldering/testing/mechanical skill sets although my eye sight is not that good :(

    Will keep you posted...

Head over to Harbor Freight, grab a microscope and mechanics magnet, the ones with the antenna style shaft. I also have the blue silcone work mat with little spots for screws, it helps with these old metal frame chassis models where there's a ton of screws. It sounds like you have the right skills. I'd also get a belt so you can do it all while it's open.

These are on Amazon and Ebay

Thanks Mr. X. I have always wanted to buy the blue work mat...however before I go in, I managed to pry open the door with a hook (also from Harbor Freight). When I inserted a cassette and hit play, it plays as long as I hold the play button down. This is probably related to the stuck eject button. If it is a mechanical issue and potentially tough to repair - is it prudent to leave it as is and use the M2100 as a radio and Aux amplifier with Bluetooth ?
