She had a chance to play her album in a Sony Walkman and went through the experience we had before, the smell of a new cassette, the sound of shutting the Walkman door and the feeling of pressing the play button. Sniffling the cassette!! Ready to go.. hear that door shut.
Kylie was born in 1968 so is very much of the "Cassette Generation". The most memorable part of her Sounds of the 80s interview was Sara Cox asking "were you like Home Taping is Killing Music ?" Kylie "No I was the one with my fingers on play and record of my mono Radio Cassette Recorder". It is lovely to see in the video how much joy a cassette of her own album and a Walkman give her.
Such irony that this appears, as I was just listening to her cover of The Locomotion! BTW: Would somebody identify what model Sony she's using? I've got a feeling demand for it will "shoot-up".

Hmmm.... The EQ is nice, and it's good to see Dolby B in play... but for all it is, I'd expect it to have Auto-Reverse as well. And maybe AMSS (Automatic Music Search System).
Hang on your your collection a bit longer. Interest is growing with physical media as concert promotional material. Cassettes are being bought by music fans as memorabilia. We are going to need new tape soon. Let's hope it's good quality tape that emerges.

It is probably better than the WM-22 which appears in the movie "Blinded by the Light". I acquired that but it's all plastic with reduced features but does sound quite good for a £30 budget model. I wouldn't pay too much for a WM-36 unless it's Kylie's of course
Nice post - thanks. As for the WM36 - I recall my brother had one of them and I was quite jealous of the equaliser, until I tried listening to it. As soon as you moved any of the adjusters from the centre position there was a large increase in hiss that made it quite useless. Thankfully the adjusters had a central position that they clicked into which meant the equaliser could be deactivated. Rather defeated the point though. You’re better off with the Wm22 which had a more stable transport and I believe the construction method makes it more repairable too.
Certainly the easiest belt change I have ever done is on the WM-22. The back panel can be removed without disturbing any switches and the path is clear with cut outs around the PCB to reveal the brass capstan drives. I might not bother with the WM-36 even though it looks more up market than the WM-22. Thanks for the feedback.
