After realising what a rambling post this is I have highlighted the key point.

The most welcome present would have been some time to spend playing with my toys but I didn't get that

I have just completed repairing our Slow Cooker for a second time. One of those jobs which looked simple (a cracked control panel) but which took four times longer than expected. Once I had invested a couple of hours in it I was determined not to let it defeat me, even going as far as spending £7 on some rapid selling Araldite after having problems with the standard epoxy I was trying to use. In hindsight I should have just bought a new one for £30.

Now I am on to iPad repairs. I would be quite happy to replace that with a new one, if I could transfer everything including my wife's game progress onto a replacement. As it is some games have transferred, others are back to level 1. we have had this problem with IOS devices before.

The Sony NW-A45 I recently posted about was actually my birthday present from August but I only got around to buying it a couple of weeks ago.

My main present from me to me is a 2012 MacBook Pro. They are now down to a price that I thought I might see what all the fuss is about and play with iMovie. Unlike newer Macs it will take a standard SSD.

With seven tablets, four Windows laptops, and two desktops in the house already, maybe it isn't surprising I don't have much spare time.
One of the desktops needs to be upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1 (to retain Media Center for another three years).
I wasted hours trying to upgrade an Acer tablet to Windows 8.1 having problems getting a legit product code.
In contrast the Windows 10 upgrades I have done have gone smoothly.

p.s Now that Android and Windows tablets are down to a price where you can have plenty of storage for a reasonable price has anyone ever used one as a jukebox.
Having not had room for my CD collection for years, for a long time I have fancied a Jukebox type device that is as intuitive as the ones in pubs. That was what the Media Center PC was about. I have considered things like a Sony HAP-S1, but compared to the price of a Tablet or PC they seem over-priced.

Life was far simpler when the only computer in the house was an MSX for Amateur Radio RTTY and playing Manic Miner :yesss:
The problem is that back then the Yellow pages listed every shop you might want to visit, there was a bank on every High Street, and many shops sold Vinyl and Cassettes of the latest hits.

My other half noticed that I didn't have any yellow Walkmen in my collection so he got me this little beauty for Christmas! Nothing fancy but looks great in yellow. Just needed a good head clean and a squirt of Servisol!

Interesting to see a Yellow Walkman that isn't a "Sports" one.

Today I am over in my old home town of Bristol where my sister still lives.
A very thoughtful present from her (on the right). It is actually a traditional glass Christmas Decoration.
If it doesn't make it onto the tree this year it will next year.

On the left is something I spotted in Sainsburys supermarket on the way here.
Reduced to £5 it jumped straight into my basket.
Since I still have a CD player in the car, for the rest of the journey I was back in 1984.
With two Georgio Moroder classics in the first four tracks it was off to a good start.
Originally released on Vinyl and cassette at the end of November 1984, I am sure a lot of Music fans got this in their Christmas stockings back in 1984, possibly from a Grandma or someone.

For those not familiar with the Now range, which is now up to Now 104 they were the result
of Richard Branson at Virgin Records deciding to try and beat Ktel and Ronco at their own game.
It is claimed they are the most popular series of compilation albums ever.

What makes it more interesting than your usual "Best of the 80s" compilations is the inclusion of a few tracks that get very little play these days, for example The Kane Gang "Respect Yourself". Back to well known hits that is followed by Tina Turner "Private Dancer".

    For those no

Cool, might have to look out for that next time I'm in Sainburys! I still have my original vinyl version but it would be fun to have it on CD too!

Have you had that from new ?

I do have Now 2 on Vinyl somewhere. I am wondering which others they have re-released on CD.
Now 8 was the first one to originally be released on CD back in Nov 86, but I am sure sales were very small compared to Vinyl and Cassette back then. I used to regularly see more recent Now CDs for sale at Charity Shops but found that beyond Now 40 I didn't recognise half the artists. Out of 32 tracks on Now 4 there are only two by artists I don't recognise..

Yes, all my original purchases from back in the day. Used to save up my paper round money and go into town on the bus on Saturday morning to buy them from WHSmiths or Our price. Then come home and whack them straight onto a tape to play in my walkman. Those were the days!

I am envious of both of your collections, although you are showing your (young) ages. Back when I was a lad most compilations were of cover versions, like the long running "Top of the Pops" series.

    https://www.google.co.uk/search?saf......0i131j0j0i10.f5YyIRTGmTA#spf=1577784041173

They sold them in our village's supermarket for £1 each which was still the most I ever got a week as pocket money. Sometimes the best thing about them was the picture on the front. I can still remember how bad the cover of the Osmonds Crazy Horses was on one.
However, there are some cover version tracks featuring an unknown pianist Reginald Dwight, who said in a recent interview with Johnnie Walker what fun they had making them especially since he was able to collect his fee from the cash office at the end of each session.

They were very popular back in the day, but finished at about the same time as the Now series started.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_of_the_Pops_(record_series)

There might be some hidden gems on them, as the comment in the Wikipedia article about the John Lennon tracks notes.
I do have a covers compilation tape, bought in Spain, in which the cover of Jennifer Rush's "The Power of Love" is, to my ears, better than the original.

Here are my headphones I bought for Christmas paired up with my Boo Do Khan. They work well with the unit with a deep bass especially when the DOL is switched on and apart from the logo and model number they heave the same specification as the original headphones for the Boo Do Khan
