I've been repairing a WM-DC2 with a cracked center gear, it has always sounded 'out of tune' but I assumed this was due to the cracked center gear issue.

Having now serviced the unit and replaced the center gear everything is runningwell as far as I can see, however it still has extremely high W&F so the issue existed as well as the cracked gear.

All rubber looks good, no slipping, deformation or anything concerning. The unit is running smoothly and I am at a loss as to what is causing the W&F still. Any ideas?

Did you also change the capstan rubber ring? Even if it looks good, it is necessary....

Swapped the rubber capstan ring and when doing so found the motor spring not attached so it wasn't providing tension! Between this and swapping the rubber it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks again!

    Sounds absolutely fantastic!

During the repair the red LED stopped working, do these commonly fail? If dead I will need to try an obtain a replacement LED from a donor machine.

Meter shows good voltage across the legs so it's not the solder joints as far as I can tell, any common issues with these?

Seems like a trace issue. I hope you like continuity tests
