So I got a pair of EX-618's off ebay a week ago.
They were listed as one for spares and one that worked previously but the owner didn't have a charger to test it before he sold. I suspect this to be a huge lie but as he never explicitly said it definitely worked it leaves me with a choice of fix or chuck so I may as well try to fix it first.
I've got a brand new battery which is charged up but the player is literally dead, no battery light or anything so my question is what should be my first port of call to try and fix?
Battery contact on the door seems clean enough but after that I'm stumped!

So my understanding is you got 2 Ex-618 with clean battery terminals and no response when you place a charged battery in the battery compartment. :iconconfused:
That is odd. I worked with this model before and never had issues.

The only explanation I have is probably the previous owner tried to fix the walkman and by mistake some of the wires are disconnected or he did some damage to the walkman.
Open one of them and see the wires inside. I am sure you can see if somebody opened it previously by looking at wires or sign of damage to the internal component. Next step is to check the motor first by running the motor directly with 1.5V battery.
You might be able to fix it. Meantime you can share your experience here and I am sure there are people who might help.

I opened them both up to compare only to find the battery terminal inside was a bit corroded and there was some dubious looking black crud on a couple of the circuit board solders. Cleaned them both up and tried again and it worked great just needs a new belt now :D

So, as I said I got it working again and just fitted a new belt but now I have a strange new problem. The stop button now acts like the play button and the only way to stop playback is by disconnecting the battery which I'm not too keen on.
Any ideas what the problem could be or where to start looking?
All of the buttons on the circuitboard work/click fine when you press them and none are pushed in.
