I recently posted a note about the Miles Davis album, "RubberBand", long lost in the Columbia/Warner Bros Records' archival storage facility. See my comments at:

    http://www.stereo2go.com/forums/threads/jazz-miles-davis-rubberband-album.5166/

Also, I'd be grateful to any of you who may have knowledge of the actual model and vintage of that magnificent boombox placed next to Miles Davis in the photo below:

Dear Mr Miles Davis was a person of exceptional taste in his possessions, so I'd really like to know a bit more about the S2G music gear he enjoyed back during the 1980s.

    Cheers,

    Bleusy

Do you think he was really pictured together with this Philips, that's not a photo collage?
    Just wondering.

Thanks Mystic - Kind of looks like a digitally constructed advert page (inside cover of recent Jazz Times 'zine). Older looking image of Mr M too, his hairline receded by late 1980s.

That Philips super box is intriguing to view though. Lots of functionality, likely rare and expensive now days ......

None offered on the ebay auction block currently. Thanks for providing identification and details.

Look for a PM from me over the weekend ..... Re: Marantz/Superscope inquiry

    Cheers,

    Mr Bleusy

Some of the Philips showed up over here as Magnavox, most are BPC but there's some exceptions, you may find that version for low dough since Magnavox Boomers are largely ignored.

I would stay away from Philips bboxes: real cheap cassette mech even in The Elephant, plus those crumbling gears... oh, my!
I Love Miles (who does not!!), and this Rubberband is yet another proof that he is a Visionary: 15-20years ago I fell for Zero 7, Groove Armada and such “lounge musik” for almost a year... shame on me! But it was Miles who invented that style of garbage, I am mightily impressed!!!

Indeed, thanks for advice Jorge. I'll focus on the Marantz/Superscope boxes, but I'm really not in any kind of a rush ..... Speaking of Rush, Neal Peart passed away a few days ago; He was an extraordinary drummer and lyricist.

"Spirit of the Radio" S2G if you can dig that !!!

    Cheers,

    Bleusy

Yep, mate, such a tank looking Stereo and this gear disease..

I do appreciate and value Phil for their inventions and R&D, sure,
but as for final products, sometimes, well blah..

Philips decided to make everything lightweight to save shipping expense. Not only were their cassette mechanisms lightweight, but so were their speakers. If you look at the speakers inside the D8444, they have plastic baskets. I think they shared some of their speakers with their TV sets, lol.

I must track down this Miles album then, as I have many of his and I loved the lounge era as much as the “acid jazz” era of his Doo Bop! I just stumbled across a Philips 8717 for quite cheap, it’s a monster, but we will see how it performs when it arrives

Nice ideas, James ..... Those vinyls are awesome.

Go for that, and also check out the 50th Anniv of "Kind of Blue" album on compact disc, that's the most.

    Cheers,

    Bleusy

I just saw that for a fairly exorbitant amount of money ($100), I can get the three kind of blue compact discs, and the kind of blue on blue vinyl!

The Philips decks are really easy to repair these days..........

Buy new 3D printed gears from Poland/Russia & teach yourself to replace them, trust me it's so damn easy! I've done 3 in the last couple of months & although fragile, once repaired they will last as the new gears are made of very tough plastic! There's never been a better time to fix these decks so don't be worried about having a go! Or send them to me! I find them real easy to do now!
I have an Elephant for sale in amazing condition if anyone wants to take it on.............
It needs just belt replacement (Daunting but doable Job) as well as the power button fixing, it is present & the LCD display panel reseating! It works very well as it is but belt snapped on deck & I'd rather someone else took it on & loved it as it's really beyond my capabilities as this illness slowly takes away my abilities :emoji_angry:

Good to see a post from you Nick.
I think you should give Jorge first refusal on this one since his last elephant got burnt along with the rest of his collection in one of the California fires.

@nickeccles what can I say... Jorge wants The Elephant! The memories of restoring my burned one still give me shivers... but the end-result was absolutely Glorious, and worth all the pains!!!...

Since I lost my home on 11/9/2018 (sounds like 9/11 to me) I do not have enough space for anything else but fiddling with Discmans... :(... so I had to put boomboxes revival on hold. One beautiful Sharp mono that @Longman sent my way a year ago is still awaiting restoration: I have no space for when boombox is all in pieces :(

But.... Give me a few weeks to sell some revived Discmans and I will be able to afford to take an Elephant off your hands ;)

this Miles Davis thread is totally hacked!!! ;)

Jorge - It's yours! The issues with it are exactly the same as your lost machine & it's begging to get restored! Keep in touch & after the crisis is over or in control, I'll get it ready to ship over to you!
