Thought I'd return to what I grew up with while on lock down from the plague. Found a good condition Toshiba KT-S3 and now have a JVC CX-5 and Toshiba KT-RS1.

I will definitely be looking for some 'been there, done that' experiences here regarding belt replacement and general refurb work.

    Thanks for the add!

Welcome from the other side of town! This thread just showed up for me, I'm wondering if there's a delay for "new member" threads or I'm just getting old. Those are nice little personals to get started with but I have to admit, the JVC PCPs are pretty hard to find, I have the boxes but I had to look on the shelf to see if there's anything else and I found a few more but they're pretty obscure models.

We have about eight members in the area now, time for a party! My buddy is the Growler, I might have to talk him into giving us space at an event for a real Beer & Boomboxes (and Walkmans) get together. Good luck on the units, I work on mine but my skills are minimal and even then finding time is a bigger factor, even now.

    Hello Wheelwright and welcome
Mister X is absolutely right about finding JVC Walkmans, hard to find and expensive.
These Walkmans are very difficult to repair, very tiny, even change the belt may take hours. You must completely disassembled the unit to get to the belt.
Unsoldering the PCB and the flexible flat cables can be tough, I did on mine and it took me hours even if I have experience.
The plastic centre gear is a nightmare, it breaks very easy, coz of the plastic drying.
Even if you do all correctly the wow/flutter is still very high.

So good luck and feel free to ask any questions.

    Best regards

    welcome to S2G
among the three walkman units you got the easiest one to install belt is Toshiba KT-S3 then JVC CX-5 and the most difficult one is Toshiba KT-RS1 (since it requires a lot of soldering)
So start the work with KT-S3 . I do not have a service manual for it but hopefully other members might have it. Try to find the service manual and follow the instruction to avoid damaging your walkman.
