This week I reset this walkman ... Mechanically it was ok but nothing was heard from the headphones, only the noise of the engine ... I found the capacitors here from a dealer in part and others via the internet. I could not find them the same voltage as the originals ... but in the end now it sounds great ... :yesss: and beautiful for me

    Great work!

What method did you use to desolder the SMD caps, hot air gun or soldering iron?

excellent job. I have few of this model and they need to be recapped.
Can you please list the capacitors required for this model? thanks

Following your example Silver965, I try to restore an Aiwa Hs-PL505, same problem as yours, no audio, mecanically 100% ok.
I got the caps, someone wiht higher voltage rate than orginal ones but the correct size. Desoldering was a hard work...
But I think was ok, after solder the new caps, sound seems to be ok but the buttons, play, ff, revwind didn't work. When I connect the battery the mecanisms runs as think it should, checking and adjusting the tape tension, but not further response when I press the buttons play, ff or rew. I'm very dissappointing as I took extremely care during all process of recap. I was reviewing the joints between the main pcb and the secundary pcb in which the bottons are located, It appears everithing is ok. I was wondering if the problem coud be I connected the battery wihout the caps before I solder the new ones. Could this affect to the IC logic? I post pictures as soon as posible. Do you have the service manua?

Someone have an idea what would be the problem?

    many thanks in advance

I don't think connecting power with the caps removed would cause damage to the IC's.
I would do a continuity test on the power and ground connections between the main PCB and the secondary PCB, I understand this is not so easy without a schematic/layout diagram.
Alternatively, resolder each joint between the 2 PCB's, adding a bit of flux to help the joint flow nicely.
Does this model have a wired remote control in the headphone jack that you could test functionality?

Thanks for the reply mattb1970, yes I have resoldered each joint, using previously a litlle bit of JCB flux, the new solders appears to be ok as far I can see. I'm triying to take a good pictures to show it, but I'm not very good with the camera :(

Unfortunately I don't have the remote control in order to make the test you mentioned, I think too the best way is a continuity test between 1 and 2 pcb's but I can`t find the service manual.

Could be a solenoid issue? I think is not likely because some functions still works in this case

The fact the mechanism is tensioning the tape when a battery is inserted is a good sign.
I still think there could be a bad connection between the PCB's. Can you find a ground trace on the main PCB (battery contact) and check for any continuity on the secondary PCB. If nothing connects to ground you may have located the issue.
