Hi my name is Corinna, I used to browse the galleries here years ago to just drool :) I used to have a decent collection of cassette decks in varying conditions and ages and now Im ashamed to say I only have two functioning tape players at the moment. Cassettes are my favorite-and I try not to let it get to me personally how finicky they are.

I just bought a Philips LE CUBE and its so beautiful but joined back up again to get some help from the experts here. Sorry in advance my vocabulary for names of parts isn't good. The tape function worked perfectly for about an hour before it stopped. The FF and rewind function works, when I hit play the function spins for a second and then stops. The capstan spins. I can hear the motor wanting to make it spin but it doesn't. Im assuming a tape hadn't been played in it for more than 20 minutes in a long time and something slipped off. This thing is still a powerhouse and I'm hoping for some guidance to fix it and would consider paying to have it fixed. I'll do anything! Thank you!

    welcome t S@G sweatmotel
They way you described the issue I guess the problem can be fixed by changing the belt. I do not have this specific deck but looks like an easy job.

Welcome sweatmotel! Thanks for sharing, we don't see many of those Philips, especially in the US. It's most likely the belt or the capstan. Replace the belt, get some Rubber Renue and clean and renew the capstan rubber. The capstan rubber will get hard and polished and not pull the tape through at a constant feed, sometimes the Rubber Renue will fix it. Usually replacing the belt will fix the newer models and you don't have to worry about the rubber rollers.
