Welcome Rossoe, soldering takes practice and patience and good eyesight. The better the equipment, the easier the job, I suggest watching My Mate Vince on YouTube and check out the tools he uses. He started with entry-level and has upped his game following comments on his videos.

Thanks Mister X, I bought a chinesium KSGER T12 soldering station, as I'm on a budget. I'll watch those vids for sure. just waiting for some test SMD kits from china to practice on. Can't wait to learn the tricks. hopefully some flux will help me along!

Hi @WheelyPanamax2 with all this lock down on the way I thought I'd get stuck into something productive over the winter! not wanting to spend a fortune I thought I'd try the KSGER T12 V3.0 soldering station as it seemed to get some good reviews - apart from some warnings to sort a few things out like earthing mod's etc. It's very reasonable price, just have to wait for Chinese delivery :(

Also I literally just ordered a ESR meter MESR-100 v2 as I was getting frustrated not being able to test electrolytic capacitors whilst they were in the circuit. Not sure how accurate it will be with the low voltage caps, but I'll test it out and report back.

Have you bought any projects to fix up yet?

I'm starting with a Walkman that didn't cost too much in case I make a mess of it.
