    Hi there,

I’m a Sharp GF767 / GF777 enthusiast based in Glasgow. I used to be on these forums back in 2011/12 and bought a GF767 and a GF777 on here back then. I've since had a few years out doing other things. Now getting back into it and have returned with a new login because I lost mine with the forum move. It's good to be back.

This post is about a possible exchange.

I own two GF777’s. I’ve used them both periodically but not very heavily. This morning I tested them both carefully and took detailed pictures of each. I’ll list details below.

I use the 777 in art exhibitions, playing tapes on them (spoken word). It’s crucial that the unit used in exhibitions is in mint or near-mint cosmetic condition, as well as fully functioning. Both of my 777’s are in good working order, with excellent sound. However, both of them have been affected cosmetically from being transported too roughly over the years (not by me). It’s all superficial, but because of it I can’t use them anymore for the exhibitions, even though they still work very well. I’m sure that with some TLC on the casings and possibly replacement casing parts they could both be lovingly restored back to excellent condition, but I just don’t have the time right now for that project.

So I’m here to ask if anyone is interested in an exchange. Both of these cosmetically flawed but well functioning 777’s in exchange for one 777 in mint condition that’s been tested, serviced and is fully functioning.

Below is a breakdown of the condition of both machines for anyone here interested in an exchange. And photographs of them both. I’ve labelled the units ≠1 and ≠2

I’ve come here because I’d really like them to go to a good home and because I like dealing with trusted fellow enthusiasts.

Please see info and pics below. I’ve compressed the pics for upload purposes. If you’re interested and would like higher resolution (for better detail), message me and I’ll send them over.

And lastly, these two units would be sent to you very well packaged. Lessons have been learned with couriers ; )

I would also build a wooden crate for the new one which will prevent any scuffs and preserve it’s longevity for life.

    Cheers,

    Charlie (Glasgow, UK)

DETAILS OF MY TWO GF777's :

    GF 777 ≠1

I have no information about its service history. It was bought by a friend who lives in Germany and transported back.

    Radio working perfectly.

Sound quality excellent. All speakers working well. No tears.

    Both subs working well.

    Both antennae perfect.

    Both VU meters responding well.

    Both grills in good condition.

Tape deck 1: Sounds great. Running at correct speed. Fast fwd good. Rewind not working.

Tape deck 2: Sounds great. Running at correct speed. Fast fwd good. Rewind not working.

    COSMETICS:

    - Some surface scuffs on top, two small scuffs on front, and one small indentation top right (all pictured).

    - - Very slight blemish on two right cones but does not affect function in any way. See pic.

    GF 777 ≠2

I bought this in 2012 from a UK collector via this forum. This machine has had two services that I know of in the last six years: one prior to me buying it, and one in 2014.

    Radio working perfectly.

Sound quality excellent. All speakers working well. No tears.

    Both subs working well.

    Both antennae perfect.

VU meter lights up but needles don’t move much.

    Both grills in good condition.

Tape deck 1: Sounds great. Running at correct speed. Fast fwd good. Rewind good.

Tape deck 2: Sounds great. Running at correct speed. Fast fwd good. Rewind sluggish at first but fine once it gets going.

    COSMETICS:

    - Missing battery cover.

    - There’s a hole (approx. 4cm x 1.5cm) in the casing on right side of unit. The piece may inside the unit, I’m not sure. There’s a long scratch below the hole. The top, front and back of the unit and the other side are in pretty good cosmetic condition.

    - There’s a scuff mark above the tape deck that’s been covered with a kind of composite or grey paint. Kind of matches the casing but not when you look closely. See pic.

    - Slight blemish on far right cone but does not affect function in any way. See pic.

    Hi all,

    Just to update this thread:

If an exchange isn't an option, I'm open to just selling both these units.

In which case I'll be looking for a GF777 (in excellent condition) to buy. In case anyone on here is looking to sell.

    Thanks!

    Charlie

I remember a member had five of those back then, it was very impressive. I'd love to do a Beer and Boomboxes Post with some Scottish Ale and one of these but I have a feeling shipping would be a deal-killer along with these seem to be hitting that high end stratospheric pricing. Thanks for posting the photos, someday I might find one of these locally.

Thanks Mister X, and yes to the Scottish Ale - I'd say the Williams Bros range is particularly good with the 767/777.
Yeah it's a bit of a shocker how much the prices have gone up on ebay since I was last buying.
