After a big lull in adding any boxes to my collection, I finally scored myself a working D8614 - yay - well worth the wait - always wanted one of these as a kid after scouring Argos catalogues and local electronic stores in the early 80's but never had enough money at the time! It sounds fab - can you see me smiling behind my camera :)

Very nice, we don't see many Philips around here, sometimes a Magnovox shows up but they're usually ok models.

Around here, in your geo? Or, around here, on Stereo2Go? It's a great box - quite light in weight but pretty heavy on sound quality. It was quite dirty when I got it - covered in a layer of yellow sticky goo in places but luckily a few baby wipes cleaned it all off completely and no obvious scratches or marks anywhere. Top result.

Both, but mostly USA. It's nice when it's just a layer of dirt and not serious crust.

Nice unit! I have this one which sounds pretty ace too, weighs a ton though!

For some reason, those models weren't popular in the US, even the Magnavox versions. Americans preferred the lower-quality D8444.

I think the Magnavox Name was similar to Fisher, most of the equipment seen in the USA was the bottom of the barrel found in department stores. Now in hindsight were seeing they had some cool models but the name would have killed any credibility with your friends.

Nice Boomer lupogtiboy, those Philips do have a very refined look that was hard to pull off, similar to Technics.

It's an odd one as you have the ability to listen to one source on headphones, while the speakers are on a different source. I think I paid £40 from a charity shop for it. Only problem is storing it!

This was my Dream Machine as well, and acquired one sometimes back.
I still remember seeing the news paper ads when it was introduced back then.

And you clever man, enjoying the VUs with Rec+Pause on?
Why the hell Philips decided to use the VU meter for Cassette Deck Play/Record only and not for Radio/AUX in?

    That looks superb!

A few weeks ago I picked up a D8634, more or less the same machine as far as I can work out although with slightly different styling. Mine is in nothing like the condition of your lovely D8614 though.

Another backwards dial model, I don't think any of mine to the left?
