Hello and thanks for letting me join up. I've just bought a Walkman Pro and I've got to say its an amazing piece of kit. I fettled it up a wee bit, new rubbers and belts and a good clean up. I'm using it with a Soundcore Motion+ and the quality is excellent in my small room. A lot of my tapes are 50 odd years old and I thought they were cream crackered but they play well on the Walkman. It just goes to show what good quality gear can do. I have to resurrect my Akai reel to reel now as I have a load of stuff I recorded years ago in various live venues. Wish me luck! Roger.
Good luck Roger! I think the good news is a lot of the old media still sounds great, the equipment might need new parts and a good cleaning but that's half the fun. I'm going through some cool Scorpions Videos and love live music, I had no idea they played Rio in 2019. I've been to hundreds of concerts, what kind of music were you recording? Were you with the band or bootlegging? The WM Pro was used a lot for recording in the seats but any AKAI would have been too big to hide. I've got a few AKAI RTRs around here, nothing special but they're built like a tank, most still work fine but I haven't tested any of the sonics beyond playing a tape once in a while.
Hi Mister X Thanks for the welcome. Most of the live music I recorded was in folk and blues venues so it wasn't really bootlegged just recorded informally, but I have some well known artists known hidden away if I can find them. I was a sailor for a lot of years so I accumulated all sorts of cassettes over time, about 300 at the last count!! I used to take more tapes than clothes away with me!! My Akai is a basic 1720L but its a good solid heavy lump of a machine which I used when I was on leave back in the UK. At the moment we are in between two houses -tapes in one house, gear in the other- you get the idea I'm sure. Its good to get a message from the States. I've been there a lot but just around the coast. I hope all is well with you people after all the kerfuffle with the election. Roger.
Welcome Roger. Those are some interesting stories. Many people say it was sailors who introduced the U.K.to Rock & Roll. It isn't a coincidence that The Beatles came from Liverpool which was a major U.K. Port at the time. I hope you find everything. I still have stuff which has been mislaid since I moved house ten years ago!
Hello Longman. Yes you're right. Seaports have always been wonderfully multicutural. Our two daughters live in Leith and although it isn't a major port these days its a superb mixture of races, religions and cultures. One pub has darts and pool teams consisting of turban wearing Sikhs!! I'm sure all this worldwide interaction had a major influence on the spread of global music. The generation of sailors before me would have brought back music from all over the world. I used to bring home vinyl and cassettes of blues and jazz that was unobtainable in the UK at the time. I have a Brennan B2 and I've digitised a lot of my vinyl and I have to start on some of my more fragile cassettes and tapes now I have a decent cassette deck. I've asked a question about that in the recording forum and I'm sure some knowledgeable person will point me in the right direction. Roger
