These days after a wait of almost a month for the arrival of the Final transistors I put this old sony amplifier back into service ... here some photos being tested operation
Hi Jorge.. The cassette and a leftover of a local Free Radio ... was originally only 3 Min used for advertising and Gingle ...I used one by taking the tape from another 50 Min cassette The amplifier and already ok I changed the endings
You are lucky it uses transistors. I have a similar looking Sony amplifier needing repair which uses one of the Sankyo output modules which are quite difficult to obtain these days especially as apparently there are poor quality fakes on places like eBay.
No Longman.. was a targeted choice precisely to avoid STK chips.. which are present in the TA AX2 -3 series.. the initial idea was to find a low profile amplifier also as measures especially in height ...and turn it into a preamp by improving on-board electronics..so low initial cost.. it makes it easy to find spare parts ... and then Self-construction ... example change RIAA preamp to a quieter one with FET. transistors. ... I have several schemes even of the most prestigious amplifiers from where to take inspiration... here some photos of the riaa prototype
You have put a lot of work into that pre-amp board. The faulty amplifier I have is a TA-AX2, a not very successful "untested" Ebay purchase like you bought for the super slim profile. I briefly thought about replacing the module with something like National Semiconductor (TI) power ICs which seem to have a good reputation sound-wise, but have many other projects which are a higher priority, like fitting a pre-amp (bought last year) inside the turntable so I can use it with any system I like. I also have working TA-AX22 which I only got because it came with the Turntable I wanted, and an STK based Sharp receive which I have yet to even try. I wonder if you are familiar with the later Sony systems. It would be nice to get something compact but with plenty of inputs and a matching CD player. Higher end than the all in one Mini Systems. They do exist but I don't remember the model numbers.
The TA AX4 does not have STKs but final transistors like my ... the Ta ax2 I like for its small size but inside it does not have a preamplifier .. the various inputs enter directly after the control keys on the endings consisting of two Stks ... It has a miserable Pre Riaa .... Another sony a little richer in inputs and the most complete TA f45 even with MM MC selector Otherwise you can watch the Sony Ta-FE 310r FE 510r series that have multiple inputs are low profile ..... but they also use Chip STK Finals
You certainly seem to be knowledgeable about the different Sony amplifier ranges. The one I was thinking of was the TA-F3000 although looking at eBay prices and the design of the matching CD player I aren't as tempted now. Thanks to Ebay recommendations I have just found that Denon made some nice Mini-systems with plenty of inputs on the receiver and matching CD and tape decks.
