I replaced the belt for a WM-600. everything looked good and working but as soon as i connect the headphone plug it stops working. Then i ordered another WM-600, changed the belt again and same scenario.

This model works fine (play, FF and REW) without a headphone connected. As soon as i plug the headphone it stops working.

Can somebody give me some ideas where the problem is?
    Thank you

agree with @Longman : try headphones with 3.5mm TRRS plug (any h/p with a mic):

to make WM-600 work with any h/p just desolder/snip-off the pins for the second ring

    Hi Boodokhan,

Were you able to figure out if the headphones were the ones causing the issue?

While on the subject of the wm-600, I'm currently working on changing the belt on a used one I recently bought, but I'm having a hard time opening the back part. The service manual fails to show a disassembly page and I can only loosen the side where the AA adapter is but get stuck where the phone jack is (that whole area). I don't want to force it since I've broken a few clips on other players before and I'm trying not to bend the case as it's made out of metal.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Both of mu WM-600 work without connecting the headphone but as soon as i connect a headphone stop working. I didnt have time to follow Jorge's recommendation yet. Will update you next week.

to help you with your problem i can open one of my WM-600 and show you the steps on Sunday. There shouldn't be any problem opening it or at least i didn't have any problem. let me open one and see whether or not there is a tricky part might causing you problem opening the back cover

I opened a WM-600 to show you there is nothing to stop you from opening the back cover.

    update:
Both of my WM-600 work with 3.5mm TRRS jack but not with regular headphone jack
I appreciate the help provided by @Longman and @Jorge . Thank you very much :worship:

    Now i have a question:
Is there any connector 3.5mm TRRS to regular headphone jack i searched Amazon and Ebay, there are many of them with different numbers/ specification. Can somebody recommend an adapter to convert a regular headphone jack to 3.5mm TRRS? Thanks

    I think this should work.

Or, to stay on the fancy side, DIY from Switchcraft 3.5mm female jack, Mogami cable, and one TRRS :wink2

Nice Walkman, now I want one of these!!!:lollegs:

Hey doren, if you read the forum they talked about using a TRRS plug which has an extra ring used today for microphones. They also discussed in line remotes however the WM-7 came out very early on in the Walkmans life and didn’t come with or support in line remotes. It wasnt until the 90’s really where in line remotes became popular. I cant speak too much to your problem with your WM-7 but I’d advise if you havent already, to try out a TRRS plug or. Apple earbuds or say Koss KPH30i both have in line remotes with single use buttons. [EDIT: apparently the WM-7 did have a remote, the TRRS plug is likely the way to go]
