    Hello,
I recently acquired a WM-7 and changed belt, did alignment, and all the rest. One problem's still there, it is Sony's weird remote control integration. It uses regular 3 pin jack for it. When i plug a pair of 3 or 4 pin jack headphones, nothing happens in particular, but when a jack to jack cable is inserted with no headphone at the end, or to my amp, it just triggers reverse in a loop, which is, you can guess, not really practical. I have a very temporary solution to plug in headphones with two jacks on it, then i plug my jack to jack on the headphones, and it works without a problem. Does anyone know by any chance how I could solve the problem or even better craft a remote? A little guess I've made was maybe it has to do with impedance, but I really don't know. Thanks!

Thanks, I am gonna try getting a 4-pin jack to jack cable.

the WM-7 remote works with a resistor in the original cable. this is why you can use a WM-7 with any standard headphone, but won't work f.ex. with active speakers, because they need a signal impulse to leave standby - the internal resistor will make your WM-7 do silly things (like permanent autoreverse)

Thanks, you're saying i should try something like this ? With a resistor in series on each channel and a momentary switch that opens the circuit ? I hope you will be able to understand this attached quick schematic .

yep, something like this - just can' tell you und the value (...what a great rime ), i must dig in my boxes to find an original set and will measure - in the meantime just try, i think with a 100 ohms or something like that it should work - i would try the resistor in the ground- link, not hot channel...

That would be great from you. I'll try as soon as I, although i don't have access to many components as of right now and won't for a certain time. If you also had a more accurate schematic too, I'd gladly take it, if that's not pushing it too far! Thank you for the info.

Do you know by any chance the model number of the remote/headset in question ? I'd like to gather information online but i can't seem to find any information.

I have several WM-7's including a pair of the remote headphones MDR-W5(R), so I opened them up to show the remote section wiring, hope this helps.

Hi there, is there already a solution found for this. I have the same issue with my WM-7. Just wondering is there is a solution. Any headphones I have used won't work. 4pin jack headphones. And also my Sony noise cancellation headphones.
