Hi all. I currently spent a while trying to find what my very first Boombox was that I had as a young boy. Well actually you couldn’t call it a Boombox. It was a mono radio cassette recorder that I got as a Christmas present when I was about 8-10. I have vivid memories of sitting on my bedroom floor listening to the top 40 with Steve Wright trying to record the tracks whilst avoiding the DJ talking. after much searching I found what the model was. It was a Prinzsound Clubman a Chinese import Dixon’s special. Mine has long since gone and I have never seen one come up but would love to own it again. Not to best sounding box in the world but it holds some fond memories. Anyone out there own one?
Set up a saved search on Ebay. It took me several years for an Amerex AC107, the cassette recorder I received for my birthday in 1976 bought in Lasky's to appear but one eventually did. From that era I would expect Hong Kong to be far more likely as a place of manufacture although Japan, Korea or Taiwan are possibilities. My first camera was a Prinz made in Macau.
Hi longman Many thanks for the reply, I have already saved an EBay search so fingers crossed although I thought I would post on the off chance, I believe they were manufactured in Tawain although there is very little information available.
I have one of these. I bought it for the same reason as you - I had one of these in the late 70s. Thing is, it wasn't branded Prinzsound. I can't remember what brand it had on it - Sanyo comes to mind, but I wouldn't swear to it. It's in OK nick, but it's missing the battery cover.
Since my earlier post I found a Prinzsound AKA of my Amerex so I bought it. http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/akas-also-known-as.7246/ I also got myself the Prinzsound AKA of the Weltron 2001. It goes to show that Dixons didn't making anything themselves but would get products badged up to sell as their own brand. In his Autobiography Alan Sugar says that the next step beyond being a distributor was to have your own brand products as that gave you far more control of the prices. Far more recently I have seen Canon cameras and similar products "Exclusive to Curry's" that avoids any arguments as to which shop is cheapest.
