I recently purchased a WM-f10. It's very clean and included the battery cover. I opened it up, removed the old belt goo, and installed a new belt. The Walkman sorta works. Radio is great, tapes sound great. Problem is that tapes will play for a random amount of time and then randomly stop or eat tape. You can hear clicking as it's playing. I've noticed what happens is that the inversion wheel (center pulley turned by the belt) doesn't always engage the small gear that spins the reels, or will engage the wheel for a while and then stop. The troublesome center reversing wheel is sort of wobbly. Does anyone have a service manual for this model or any experience fixing this issue? I found a service manual for the Wm-10 but it looks like the audio board for this model is larger and comes apart differently. It's in very good shape and would be a shame not to get it working.

WM-f10 is very similar to wm-10 regarding the mechanical aspect. (the only difference is a radio is incorporated to WM-f10).
Its not difficult to overhaul this unit, Probably needs a good cleaning and lubrication but 2 main issues are obvious with your walkman:
1-cracked gear is very common to WM-F10, WM-10/20/30, WM-W800 .... and they all share the same gear. your walkman gear is cracked
2- pinch roller needs to be replaced (maybe you can clean and retrieve it)

I got the walkman disassembled enough today to locate the problem. Problem isn't actually with the reversing wheel. The large black gear that's part of the takeup reel assembly is missing a tooth. That's why it was clicking and randomly stopping. Not sure if I can fix this one. I assume replacement parts are unobtanium without a donor unit?

its always better to place some photos when you disassemble your walkman. Other members might have the part and you have better chance if you post some pictures.

I couldn't get it disassembled enough for a great picture. I have attached some diagrams from the service manual and the part number. It's listed as X-3315-315-0 Gear Assy, Take-Up Reel.

This is exactly the one I mentioned. This gear is very common to crack in WM10/20/30/40, F10/20, WM-W800,
The problem is the replacement walkman you want to find for parts, might have a broken wheel.

If the situation you have is this you can only replace it

That's definitely my troublesome gear. I couldn't get my walkman apart enough to actually remove that assembly, but I could see the gear teeth issues from the back. The internal teeth on my gear that the small white fast forward gear engages with on the inside are fine (I don't see the small white gear listed in my service manual. Must be a part of x-3315-907-0 Chassis Assy, I Reel). Looks like I'm missing a single tooth/chunk only on the outside where it engages with the reversing wheel.

    Hey Bob how’s it going.
I have a F10 and it’s working (not great, but working)!! It makes a ton of noise, and the sound quality is mid at best, but there is some sort of problem with the lid Closing correctly or not tightly enough that it causes the circuit to be incomplete. i have sent you a video attached here, take a look and see what you think.

It obviously needs a tuneup and the heads cleaned and the belts changed and all that standard tuneup type stuff. Can you do this type of work, and if not do you know someone who can? Let me know what you think.
