    Nice restoration :)

    I also have a FH-15R which I restored. Mainly the speaker foams and the belts of the deck had to be changed. Still have to look at the deck, it records out of balance.

    Hi, Ken80s. Let me say that it’s a bit unexpected (for me, anyway) to see a post like this, with all these large, clear, “technically inclined” photos of a restoration of yours posted in “The Lounge” here on Stereo2Go. I probably should expect to find a topic like this located in, say, the “Chat Area” or on the “Tech Talk” sub-forum of the “Boombox & Ghettoblaster” forum. (Shrug)

    But never fear! I’m definitely not criticizing or complaining. I popped in here to join other S2Gers in telling you: good work and well done with restoring that large, respectable sound system, the Sony FH-15R, complete with its Sanyo and Toshiba microchips. The unit sounds competent in playing audio from different formats and I was able to correctly “Shazam” the songs played – though dare I ask if a few of the FM stations tuned in the 72-second “Sony FH-15R Tuner Demo” clip seemed to sound a mite “staticky”? Uh, was there a weather system that caused that?

    I also wonder: does the stereo still have its original remote controller – or a replacement?

    Again, for some reason, I would think that “The Lounge” on Stereo2Go is more likely a place where members would gossip about how severely a pop star told off an assistant for not getting their doughnuts order just right. But, levity aside, you are again commended on another successful restoration you have undertaken. (You’ve done this for a while, right? And I suspect that I’ve commented on at least one other restoration of yours in the past.)

    Enjoy good music with your gear, sir – if “Rocket 2 U” by The Jets is among them. Thanks for sharing.

    @Easthelp - Thanks for the comments and compliment. Unfortunately I don't hv the remote control in this purchase but I'll hope I could find one someday. Today I continue to work on the deck. Replace all the tactile push buttons @ tape control panel and get the flat belt changed. Re-calibrate the motor speed and now the deck is almost perfect... I have added some pics in the post above.

    There you go guys, moved to a little better location, great thread Ken80's, I love your photos of the boomer and the repair tools. Did you buy the new parts locally? Our last parts store closed up about two years ago.

    @Mister X
    I moved to this town several years back and one of my biggest discovery is the small electronic shop here. It has been running more than 40 years and I could source most of the components here including belts, transistors, caps, pots and even those obsoleted semiconductor ICs. This shop is my boombox saviour..

    I have a feeling there might still be a few really old TV repair shops around here like that but most of the old-timers don't believe in the internet so you really only find them by driving by or word of mouth.
