Just going through my units this morning and noticed this. Several numbers not matching. This D-100 was bought by me from a Sony dealer back in 85/86 when the unit was released. Demonstrating units- then put back in the wrong boxes? Any ideas anyone.
Hi Derek I have a D100 .. but I don't have the box but I think it's similar to the Walkman ... the dealer probably messed around a bit
Hi Silver965. I think you're right. Cannot believe I hadn't noticed it before. Unfortunately my unit doesn't work and the two top buttons have come off. Another one of my units I would love to hear again. Is yours working ok? Derek.
No .. and it's been here with me for a while but I haven't opened it yet ... and complete with BP100 battery ... but it doesn't work
A good question. Just looked through the operating instructions that came with the D-100- and- no mention of headphones, only optional extras.
Silver965. Looking through the box again I think the original headphones were in the smaller brown box. Folding type but I cannot remember model. Have not got them any more.
Page 50 of Sony D-10/100 Service Manual mentions MDR-A10 headphones, foldable thingies available for a few bucks off eBay. SM even has Part No. for the grey box @Derek marshall has I must say that D-10 deserves something better than Sony freebies: it has the most powerful h/p amp ever used in Discmans/Walkmans. Sennheisers HD600 might be an overkill, but anything below that is a good match: HD570 and Beyerdynamics DT880 is what I use with my D-10. If your D-10 turns on but does not play, most probably it is the stuck Middle Gear. Different from D-15/25/90/99/555 Discmans and sitting on a SS, not brass pin, but still getting frozen because of solidified Sony lubricant. Unfortunately, unlike all other Sony Discmans, this middle gear is extremely difficult to remove for cleaning. You have to flip the mainboard, desolder the whole laser mechanism from the control board, and then take the motor apart (which is a belt-drive contraption!). Only then you can remove and exchange its middle gear. A dirty fix: add some synthetic motor oil (5W30, or whatever) on both sides of the MiddleGear, let it seep for a few hours, then try to turn with a tip of your finger (not fingernail!). If lucky, it will play for a few years, until motor oil destroys plastic gear, or the remains of Sony lubricant hardens again. Whatever you do, buy a new D-10 middle gear while they are still available from eBay sellers
Jorge. I seem to remember some folding type headphone which maybe came with the d-100 but is so long ago. You helped me out with some advice some time ago about the middle gear etc but it's beyond my skill level unfortunately and also not having the required tools etc. Love to be able to hear it again though as it was the very first discmani bought.
Thanks ... I haven't gotten to page 50 yet ... and I probably have a couple in some boxes I just have to look in the cellar ...
