Hi everyone, My name is Jason and I live in Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom. Im nearing 48 now, so was around back in the old days when cassette tape was pretty much everywhere. I had a thing for tape decks, radios, ghetto blasters and walkmans/personal stereos! Life gets in the way as it does, all my cassette tapes were relegated to a large box and pretty much forgotten about for two decades, then we recently moved house. At first I was not taking notice of them until watching Cassette Comeback and Techmoan on Youtube. I went through loads of walkmans from all brands. Learnt loads back then about what to avoid, knowing what was good and what was not etc! Shame you cannot buy a new 100% quality portable tape player these days I then suddenly got an itch that needed a scratch so managed to turn up an old boggo walkman hidden away and now the bug has hit! Realised it was a bit rubbish, poor quality and I wanted a good one again. I began buying up a few on ebay. Snagged one that is pretty much perfect, the rest all have the usual issues of belts, or gummed up gears, dodgy headphone jacks and crackly volume pots, so will be restoring them. I was quite happy to see there are loads of people like me out there in the world still wanting to keep these old bits of kit alive. Most of my attention has been on retro computers, Amiga and Atari ST's etc. So I am fairly technically minded, not afraid to solder and attempt repairs of my own. So that is me
Welcome. We did have an old computers thread going http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/old-computers-prev-not-your-conventional-cassette-player.1581/ My old computers (which include four STs and four Amigas) are a bit like your tapes were and haven't been powered on for a decade. In contrast I was fixing a Walkman and playing a tape yesterday. Pressing play and getting decent playback at the correct speed (after several attempts) made me smile.
