https://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/wintec-c-101-buzzing-noise.7498/ This is the knock-off walkman I am trying to fix. First there was extreme motor sound. It was annoying enough so I first tried injecting isopropyl alcohol into the motor. It didn't worked so I put some WD-40 (Yes I know it is not appropriate for this use case) it didn't sounded any better at first try but after some time the motor sound was gone. I was happy and all but I noticed walkman stopped turning after 3 seconds when there was no cassette in it. But it was working when there was a cassette in it. So anyway I changed the batteries and used it for a while. Later the problem got worse and I wasn't able to listen to cassettes anymore because it kept shutting off after 3 seconds I press the play button. I obviously get suspicious about the WD-40 and cleaned the motor from it. Nothing changed. I later used my multimeter to check what was happening. The voltage to the motor starts around 2.5V and after 3 seconds it just shuts off to 0V. After multiple tries of cleaning the motor I decided to remove it from the circuit and test independently. It was absolutely fine. I also used a bulb as a load and it also showed the same shutting off behavior. I also tested the mechanism separated from the board and all of the functions were fine. I slowly started getting insane and put it together after checking everything and being unable to find a cause. It was stopping in 3 secs with play and fast forward functions it never stopped when rewinding for some reason. This time after putting it back the fast forward got fixed somehow and it only stops at play function. Is this Walkman curse fixable. Because I swear to God all of the Walkmans I owned started meaningless problems like this. I think universe doesn't want me to listen music from cassettes.
Hi @MissionTroll . I can’t provide any help here, but would like to suggest to combine the threads you have opened since it concerns the same device. It keeps the forum a bit cleaner and allows knowledgeable members to read the repair undertakings and results so far in 1 go.
I see, since it got different problems in different times I thought this would be better but I wont open another thread. How do you combine them though.
No worries, it would be my personal preference since you are trying to revive this device. I believe that we - as mere mortals on the forum - can't merge topics, the moderator would need to do it
There is a move detection wheel with a sensor that will shut down the motor if no movement is detected. Maybe Its dirty from your wd40?
You are right there is a switch like thing connected with brown wires. If I keep shorting it with pulses it makes it keep going. I wonder what happened to it since it is far away from the motor.
Yes it is. There is a seperate belt for it. I checked and it makes contact at rewind and it should also work when normal playing but it doesn't for some reason. Maybe it is a mechanical problem.
Sorry I saw this too late. I unfortunately didn't fully fixed it. But it was ok when it worked in fast forward and you could make it continue by turning the mechanism with your hand after it stopped. So it was definitely caused by the auto stop function. I believe it is caused by a lose belt. The device used 2 belts for some reason and I think one of them got lose while I was trying to lubricate the motor. I used quite a lot ISO in the progress so it probably made the rubber gone bad. I refunded the device later after explaining the situation no never had the chance of testing my theory.
