C9235BC8-049C-44B3-AED6-9985B2FA5E1D.jpeg I’ve got a walkman 23 from 1985 that i posted about the other day, (was missing battery cap.) What i thought to be the hardest part, is done. But nonetheless the thing is still making me swear more than someone stepping on Lego.

the belt turned into some slimy tar’y substance. I cleaned the motorwheel and also the big copper one. When the new belt arrived, (from decktech,) i immediatly placed it and it looked like it worked fine. Only to put my headphone on and discover is was listening to some paranormal devil shit instead of new order. I concluded that it played too slow. I tried turning the pot-meter for speed-adjustment. It started to sound less devil’ish. But not fully.

I tried multiple things, cleaning again, other tapes, other batteries and adjusting the distance of the motor to the big wheel making the belt less tensed. It all didn’t work.

It seems to sometimes differ in speed by itself. Could the motor be roasted after more than 30 years?

Never had this problems with decks.

EDIT: forgot to say that the motor spins heavy for my idea when manually turning it.
I added a photo. I must have overlooked or something.

The motor pulley looks black under it, make sure there's no black devil tar under it. Some may have gotten into the motor through the vent holes which might be a bigger problem. Just a speck of that crap can cause big issues.

You sir, are magnificant. I tried cleaning with alcohol underneath the pulley and it miraculously started playing faster. I’ll have to clean it just a little better now and then i guess i’ll have to oil it, don’t I? And with which oil?

Dont forget to calibrate the speed with a calibration cassette. Some sewing machine oil should be fine. But just a little bit
