Hello, as per the instructions I thought I’d introduce myself.

I’m sat in my back bedroom as I type with a cassette firmly wedged in my Yamaha KX-580 se, Dolby C engaged and the play trim set just so.
A medium sized cardboard box of “To be listened to” tapes at my feet and Izzy my 10 year old English Springer to the side of me.

I’m sure I’m not the only one with an ever increasing ‘inbox’ of audio material to be reviewed, analysed and ultimately enjoyed!

After visiting this site quite a few times for a good read of the threads, I thought I’d do the proper thing and sign up and join in.

    Thanks for having me.

    Alex.

I literally have a clear plastic bag (or, sack, if you prefer) of tapes to be listened to, which I hauled out of my parents' house this past weekend.

Haha, yes I have also alleviated my parents of unwanted tapes.
I believe there’s some more somewhere but they’ve just moved and they’ve not come across them yet.

Welcome! In the old days I used to head over to the used record store and grab some tapes for the road, those were good times looking for songs past the hits.

Welcome to both of you. Were they your tapes or your parents ?
I took my late parents vinyl and pre-recorded tapes to a Charity shop and while they were happy to take the vinyl they didn't want the tapes.
I'm actually quite pleased I got to keep them now although I haven't got around to listening to them.

If you find anything interesting add it to this thread

p.s. I think you both need to keep a look out for one of those cases that holds about 24 cassettes. I saw one recently at a (different) Charity shop. The only problem was it still had about 20 cassettes in it, which they were charging £1 each for. Since it was I bought a couple. Maybe that is where my "Sounds of the 70s" tape came from.

Some tapes are mine, mainly early 90’s dance/house and my Parent’s are Beatles, Van Morrison etc.

I’ve only got back into tapes in the last year or so; currently collecting cover mounts (NME, Vox, DJ Magazines etc.) BBC spoken word comedy (just a minute, etc.) and generally anything that didn’t have a cd release (tapes put out by nightclubs but not ‘rave tapes’ with mc’ing on )

I also dabble in minidiscs, vinyl and I’ve got a metric fudge tonne of CD’s.

I love walking with MD or Tapes on my headphones. The hours fly by. Haha

They're a mix of tapes from my youth and from my brother. There's a lot of 80s and 90s pop (me), rock (me), including hair metal (haha), and British new wave and alternative (my brother). If you look at my pic, you can see Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures from my brother's collection. I also have a whole bunch of cassette singles. Last night, I played some Whitney Houston, Tara Kemp, and Firehouse on my WM-F701C.

Most tapes have lived a hard life, it's interesting to see what and where they turn up in.

Yes, and the poor packaging of sellers doesn’t help things.
I find a good few rewinds/fast forwards on my old Sony TC-K35 can help on a tape that’s not turned a wheel for a few decades.
