Hello to every one! I recently got in my hands a Sony TPS-L2 spanish made! Can i have please some info about this version? A friend told me that is super rare! Is it true? thank you!
I have seen quite a few Sony CRT TVs made in Spain so they obviously had a factory there. https://www.whathifi.com/news/japan...lant-end-in-house-lcd-manufacturing-in-europe Many products from many manufacturers were made in locations chosen to minimize import taxes and maximise Government subsidies. Somewhere I have an old National Panasonic radio made in Iran !
Did you buy it to restore and keep or to resell? Were you particularly looking for this version? Reason why, although I don’t know the L2 that well, is I have never read about the production lines differences / country of origin adding to the rarity. For the DD series I did look into L2 briefly as it is a predecessor worth mentioning. The DD10, as an example, is a DD1 further optimized but performance wise identical, that apparently has only a 1 page service manual. It states what I just described. It is for sale quite a lot online in Germany, and was released only for a few countries around the fall of the wall. Is it rare, or more rare than the DD1? Can’t tell, because there are still a lot available for sale, almost more than the DD1. Which would be strange since the DD11 came quickly after DD10, succeeding it therefor making it for Sony unnecessary to keep producing the DD10.
For sure I want to keep it! It is totally luck how this Walkman came to me. I don’t have the Japan version and I didn’t know it that Spanish made version was existing. Now that I have it in my collection i want to know more about it.
Always a good idea to research it more. Check out the service manual and compare it to what you see inside? Did you obtain more photos from the L2 online? Are there obvious differences for instance? Most likely not, Sony must have had more factories around the world that could produce devices perfectly according to spec. At least it is a start?
It is exactly the same as the Japan made. No difference. It was not working cause of belt issues. I replace the two belts and now it is working perfectly. Everything work super.
Good to read you did already research it quit a bit. I would love to have a high res picture btw. For the DD timeline I’m looking for photos for a better visual representation. Obviously non copyrighted etc., but contributing members are named See the dedicated DD overview thread for the table and timeline.
Of course I will put detailed photos! Just give me some time please to do a good clean. Walkman is ok but leather case and case belt need some good cleaning.
Welcome to S2G forum @avraxas , TPS-L2 comes in different versions. Spanish made TPS-L2 got some attention few years ago when some members started talking about it. The value of Spanish version is still higher than regular versions but the most collectible TPS-L2 is DOLLS and GUYS version.
Thank you very much for your answer. Yes I know about dolls and guys of course. What I didn’t know or i was not sure was the true value of Spanish version. As this is my first tps-l2 i was not sure if I get something truly collectible or not. With your answer I fill much better now. Thank you!
TPS-L2 is always a nice walkman to have in your collection. Cosmetic quality of TPS-L2 is more important than the sound quality when it comes to value, and cosmetic condition on this model apart from body and glass window includes: 1- top chrome plate 2- manufacturer tag on the bottom side of walkman ( mint means this walkman was not much used) 3- serial number tag inside the battery compartment( usually gets damaged during corrosion cleaning) There are a lot of TPS-L2 walkman units available in the market, The price already got inflated when "Guardian of galaxy "came out. The value of this walkman will stay in the same range for many years. So buying a TPS-L2 (regular version) for investment might not be a great idea at this time. But your specific walkman (Spanish version) and DOLLS and GUYS price will go up slightly. So if you want to keep one in your collection its better to be Dolls and guys or Spanish made version. Hugo gathered some good information about TPS-L2: http://www.walkman-archive.com/gadgets/walkman_sony_01_tps-l2_eng_v3.htm
Great post thank you! I don’t have in my mind to be honest to sell my tps-l2. So investment it’s not my priority. I am happy that I have a version that is in "top of the line". I am happy also that my unit works great! Very nice sound, even the mic works excellent. Now it is part of my collection and he stays here for many years!
