What tapes have you been playing ?

In a similar manner to the "On the Turntable" I wonder what tapes you have played recently ?
I will start with this Philips which was one of the first cassettes I had, No.6 to be precise.
    Philips Cassette.JPG
Back then I had a notebook to list their contents.

From the date of the recording I wonder if I had this before I even owned a cassette recorder,
as my Mother had her Sanyo about three years earlier.

So what was on it ?

A recording of Radio 2s "Your Top Tunes" which was a programme of popular tunes played by The Midland Radio Orchestra
    https://www.pebblemill.org/blog/midland-radio-orchestra/
in a similar style to James Last. The tunes they played were based on listeners writing in with votes during the previous week. In the U.K. here was no telephone voting in those days.
I can date this to 1975 or 1976 as at one point the presenter was talking about "Scotch on the Rocks"
as if it was a new release. Another tune with lots of requests was Una Paloma Blanca.

To me that is the magic of cassettes. I wonder how many, if any recordings exist of that programme ?
With such a generic title it is difficult to find any information on the programme at all.

So what tapes have you been playing ? I wasn't sure whether to put this thread under cassettes, which wouldn't cover reel to reel and 8 track, or Music which won't cover spoken word.

The only ones I wouldn't be interested in would be ones you recorded off existing media in the last year.

Don’t know what to say about it.

I first heard it being played in a café I was in years ago, I went and ask what was playing they told me I noted it down them went and bought it. Got some really cool tracks on it. After getting it, I ended up seeking out some of the artist on that compilation I did not have.
    Cool music, worth having. :thumbsup2:

When testing my WM-BF49 I just picked a random cassette from some I got at a Car Boot Sale or Charity shop and ended up playing the whole tape which had some very nice tracks.
    Sounds of the 70s.JPG
The copyright of the compilation was 1992. Back then everyone had a radio cassette in their car (I fitted three for girls I knew) and every filling station had a fitment full of tapes like these.

Thanks to all the recent interest I just played the entire album for the first time in about 20 years. I must have the CD as it was on my computer as .wav files. I recall taking a girl out for a long journey in my car in 1991 and she was delighted to find Taylor Dayne in the small box of cassettes in my car.

No Radio Raheem they are T70, but they are heavily modified now.
I do like the T1, my little amp would not drive it well.

Dust by Oaktree/Adriaan de Roover - I am pretty sure @autoreverser has this gem. My only serious discovery from Tidal, may be a good listen for those who have 'Sleeps with the Fishes', Clan of Xymox, Cocteau Twins, DCD, etc. in their collections. As soon as I am done updating my Der Spyra catalog I am buying all Adriaan's albums :)

That Beatles Collection is amazing, I don't think I've ever seen one tape in the wild.

Well I did say "tapes" and I just bought this one, solving a thirty year mystery for me.
    Mantrap tape.JPG
Since it came out in 1982 I have liked ABCs Lexicon of Love Album. The cover perfectly fits the music.
Gary Davies used to use clips of it when he presented "The Classiest Show on the Radio" in the 1980s.

In the early 1990s I bought the VHS compilation Absolutely ABC and was surprised that the Videos didn't have
any link to the style of the Album. Quirky would be a polite way to describe them, very disappointing another.

After finding a video more in the style of the Album for the "Enjoy the Music" thread I discovered that ABC had made a
film "Mantrap" to accompany The Lexicon of Love. eBay showed it was released on CED, Laserdisc, or VHS, so I bid on and won a VHS copy.

A boombox appeared early on in the film
    Boombox.JPG
Maybe a Sony CFS34 from the shape

The tape is more of a film than a series of Music Videos and every track has a different (but good) arrangement of the Album tracks.
I can hear why they didn't use the clips on Top of the Pops or MTV as they are so different and sound effects and dialogue can interrupt them.

"Filmed on Location" I was puzzled how they filmed a story about Russian Spies in Prague, but it turns out Austria stood in for Prague.

With no more VHS machines being made I wonder if I need another spare. I only have six at the moment and this JVC is by far the best which is why it still lives under the TV. There again a LaserDisc player might be tempting.
