Welcome. You must have some good stories to tell. Someone from Lasky's joined recently. I have just bought something from Dixon's back from when Prinz was their own brand. I will unpack it at the weekend. Over forty years ago my first calculator was a Prinztronic Mini-Scientific. A couple of years later I was back in Dixon's spending over a weeks wages on a High end Casio LCD scientific FX8000. In the the 1980s I remember seeing an advert for what I imagined to be my dream job; A buyer for Dixon's. Imagine going out to Japan to see all the latest Tech before it is even on the Japanese market. I didn't bother applying though as I had no experience of doing that sort of thing. DSG have done well being the only survivor of many similar chains that have come and gone. I work a five minute walk from what was a branch of Tempo, but it is now a kitchen and bathroom showroom.
Yes it was a great job, well paid if you sold the right things. Shame they closed all the smaller shops was a goldmine of heavy clearance. I could cry at the discontinued console cartridge's, limited edition consoles, mini discs etc I flipped instead of holding onto.
When we had a large stand-alone PC World just up the road there were a couple of occasions when I bought thing from the clearance section and sold them on eBay for a profit. What years were you there ? I can see from your age that you wouldn't have been selling any of these http://stereo2go.com/forums/threads/weltron-2001.4641/#post-56466 In fact you probably don't remember the Prinz brand which Dixon's used up to the early 1980s.
Nice.....Welcome! I love hearing the old war stories, I miss going into the computer/audio/hobby stores, they were mind-candy.
