I believe that power rating is just for 1 chip. Since it has 2, they're probably configured in BTL mode so the total power is unknown unless JVC tells us somewhere.

There is even a circuit in the datasheet showing how to do that
    https://datasheetspdf.com/pdf/607881/MatsushitaElectric/AN7156N/1
As power = V squared /R, doubling the voltage swing should bump the power up to 28w although there are bound to be losses and inefficiencies reducing that a bit, and the ICs are probably thermally limited.

From the schematic of the service manual I would say it is in BTL @Reli and always from the specifications page of the manual from a power of 20 + 20 watts
@Longman you predicted that I would put the same pattern

I just noticed that the 5.3W is at a supply voltage of 20V so at the nominal 12V supply it will be lower.
BTL amplifiers are really common in normal car audio. The big clue is that you can't ground either side of each speaker.

Jvc advertised this at 40w in there brochure same as the m90, i put lower impedance speakers in mine which made it much louder, great boombox but those bottom flaps are always breaking

the pc5 uses 8 d's and the m90 10. so i doubt the pc5 can go as loud as the m90 outdoors, plus the m90 has tweeters so this is where the m90 makes up it's ground

Looking at the photos of this tred from the beginning I noticed that it has a transformer for the power supply big enough to give power to the whole system .... the circuitry of the final amplifier that concerns the two integrated and in BTL mode. ..all this cannot be done for only 5 watts .... if you look at the datasheet there are other AN7146 chips (younger brother) ... which are mounted on Aiwa Cs 770 and Aiwa CS 880 .... on the 770 and single integrated with double chip .... On the 880 there are 2 integrated in BTL mode and of this I am sure

There is no minimum Ohms rating at the back of the PC-5 , can it safely use 4 ohms speakers.

i ran 3.2 ohm Allan lad, I'm not sure it's safe to do that though, i think the normal rating is 6 ohm if i remember correctly:wink:

i must have another 6 pairs of normal speakers i don't use silver, i was actually looking at more speakers online but one thing i don't need is more speakers lol

Yes sir, the specs published by JVC for the PC-5 is for 6 ohm rating but they didn't published any minimun speaker impedance allowed , which most other models have indicated at the back of the amp section.

Stick with 4 ohm Allan, many have done this and had no issues lad
