Today I show my recently restored Panasonic RX-DT9. This is known as the probably best boombox which Panasonic ever produced. It overrules in my opinion also the Top Cobras RX-DT95/DT75. And beside Panasonic only Aiwa with its “Strasser” CSD-SR8/SR80 had Dolby C in a 1-piece boombox. I received the DT9 already several months ago and had to struggle with a lot of problems. First was, that the CD could play only when the device was tilted. I asked for help in different forums and got the one tip that solved it – just a drop of oil to the bearing of the spindle motor. Then I replaced the belts in the cassette mechanisms. Unfortunately the two decks worked then only for a short time as both idler gear wheels broke. Luckily on ebay I found a vendor from Poland who offers good replacement gears. Furthermore I had to replace several tip switches. As the DT-9 receives only the Japanese FM band from 76…90MHz, I built in an FM converter, so that most of European FM stations can be received. Last but not least I replaced the burned display bulbs with LED’s and added illumination to tape decks and CD drive. Now it runs again without problems. Here a short video:
This is indeed the best panasonic ever made with the dt 707 909 in second place........makes a mockery of anything 80's
It is this offer here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164196523034 This seller has a lot of other gears for different devices.
That's a wonderful job what you did, absolutely in the same league with the Strasser, planning to get one in the future, now struggling with rx-dt7 ti sort out the power supply as i replaced the original transformer and it got busted , as the wiring wasn't the same, but hopefully i will sort it out somehow, what i found interesting in your post is the fm converter, could you please let me know more details about it? Kind regards Ovidiu
