Hello guys. New to the forum but I had been reading some great info about walkmans and audio gear in general I recently bought a d6c in great conditions. After messing around with it I have noticed some issues. When you are recording from the line input if your not playing anything you will hear a buzz sound. it goes away if you start a song from the source device. Also if you let the cassette play till the end it won't auto stop and you can hear the motor. I noticed that the belt it's worn and a little loose but it plays and records fine at the right speed...So I have neglected to replace the belt. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Hello and welcome to the forum ! The autostop not working can be caused by a slipping belt or by the mechanism itself not being put right, like the small spring hook on the table reel not attached. A replacement of the entire rubber set is recommended on this particular unit. You will be surprised how quieter the unit will become with new rubber. It will also prolong the life of motor. The set can be bought from here: https://fixyouraudio.com/product/sony-wm-d6c-cassette-player-walkman-complete-rubber-set/ As for the buzz you are hearing on the line in, I suppose it is coming from the device you are recording from. Possibly the output of that device becomes high impedance when no music is playing, casuing it to behave like an antenna, picking up mains hum. You can start by trying to record from a different source and see if the problem persists or not.
Thanks for your reply Valentin. I will check the mechanism and see if the spring it's hooked or missing. Also I will replace the belt and see if that helps with autostop. Also I have a d6 with the speed problem. But motor doesn't run when stopped. But the speed it's almost right if I use the speed adjuster and put it in the lowest setting. It's there a way to know if the speed servo chip still good or I need to fix it replace it? I already replaced the belt in this d6 Thanks in advance!!
About the D6, I recommend checking out this thread by @Deb64 first: https://stereo2go.com/forums/thread...fast-repair-of-cp602-servo-circuit-unit.1853/
I think @Valentin has covered the bases here but I guess you have tried recording with mains power and on batteries with the D6C to see if that hum is mains power related from poor filtering on the AC adapter. The source also may also have an AC filter issue or its resonance from something you often forget about like a WiFi router too close to the source device. These are the first things to check. Your issue with the cassette auto stop will almost certainly be fixed when a rubber kit is installed. Of course FF and REW do not activate auto stop on the D6C. I have had both the speed issue on a D6 and failed auto stop on the D6C. Certainly fixing the D6C was a lot easier than the D6. However I found the speed controller made little or no difference when the speed has doubled due to failure of that CP601 or 602 module I think. Yes @Deb64 advised me on which chip to remove and dismantle to find the failed component inside. That was beyond my skills but a friend with electronics background did it and found a single failed transistor on the mini board inside the chip, replaced it and the speed issue was resolved with my D6. Cheers.
I had been recording from my tablet and i noticed that noise. When you start playing anything it goes away. Same thing happens when connected to AC. Sometimes the autostop works like everybody has told me it could be the belt because it's old. But I had been waiting for a set of belts and tires for a while. About my D6 I had the muting module fail I removed the part and now it's playing. Waiting for a replacement mute module. I also have order some transistors to try and fix the servo module. It looks like a really hard procedure but my d6 it's in bad shape and I will do my best to get it running!
