Found a pretty sweet video from a former Sony Engineer, who from what he says had taken all the classes and info courses Sony had to offer. Using that he has compiled this video of the multitude of repairs that can be sone on the D8/D7 line of players. It's about 4 hours long so as you can guess there's quite a bit that can be done.

Thanks Farlander, I've been promised a couple of these for the last few years and one is broken, hopefully it will come with the next shipment.

I hope that SONY DAT repair guy had a better setup and interest to do a clearer and better illuminated video of this process. Maybe someone attempting the same process can redo another more precise one. Most of the time his hands are in the way and tbe scene is poorly illuminated . Having a TCD D8 in prisine condition myself and am periodically checking forums to see a clearer video of this lubrication and maintenance process. Maybe a good Samaritan can help us all....

I hope resurrecting this thread is okay, but I'd like to get recommendations for servicing my TCD-D8. It's stuck in boot up mode where the tape slack canceler is caught in a loop. I gently blew some air into it but this is one servicing Rubicon, I'm not willing to cross.

TIA for any helpful advice or recommendations...

Its going to need lubrication, it may have something stuck in the mechanism. Its very common when they dont play anything for ages...
