Sony WM-2 Audio issues - stumped.

    I'm thinking you may be right, @Jehr - and I'm definitely with you on the wires, it's the first thing I checked because they are so flimsy. I've already replaced a few wires with new ones.

    check the two shielded wires coming off the tape head right to where they are soldered onto the circuit board. The shielded part will be fine but the signal wire should have continuity when you move the head up and down manually while you measure.

    @Jehr - getting continuity on the wires while also moving the head manually! Good news there at least :)

    Yes, check those leaf switches. Sorry for the late reply, I just managed to get back here read these in detail. I saw that you've asked in another thread more specifically about the motor issue. I hope the problem can get resolved.
