Hi, I posted this earlier this evening over at tapeheads-forum, but get no replies yet. Therefore I try it again here and hope someone can help. I have just recapped an AIWA HS-JX505 walkman. The walkman sounded absolutely fantastic after that. Powerful and crisp and clear. Then I have listened to a whole cassette (SONY UCX-S90) with my on-ear headphones and was totally thrilled about the sound. Unfortunately, after that I wanted to test some old AIWA Pipephone headphones, which I had once bought together with another Walkman. But that was a big mistake, the headphones had a short circuit in one of the cables (only the left channel worked). The whole testing with the defective headphones took maybe 2-3 minutes. When I then reconnected my other headphones, the JX505 sounded absolutely shitty. Totally distorted on one channel and also the other channel did not sound as good as before (very slight distortion). I am now totally frustrated and hope that it is somehow fixable. Unfortunately my electronics knowledge is not good enough to locate this fault. I have made a screenshot of the schematic and hope that one of the walkman experts here can give me a hint how to save this walkman. will be grateful for any help Jonas
Hello and welcome if you hear the two channels but in a distorted way i would start checking these ... with the tester check if there is continuity or not
Checked both and both have continuity. I checked them on the board, not unsoldered. Does that make a difference?
Glad that you got it going again!! I'm currently in the middle of restoring a few of my Aiwa's and wanted to ask where you might be sourcing the capacitors from or if you would even be willing to sell a few that I am in need of to finish up mine? Thanks again and super happy to hear that another one has been saved! Best regards!
Hi Lincoln, there's an excellent old thread from the old s2g-forum, about replacing capacitors on AIWA walkmen. http://www.stereo2go.com/topic/index.php?content_oid=217178235650847317&board_oid=522740502721869426 I buy my capacitors online from Mouser. Digi-key is also a good reference address. Good luck with your restoration
